The inaugral world's championship series proved to be a classic, as the two best teams of the Union League squared off to do battle and pushed the series to it's full seven games. The Arahants of Ansonia jumped out to a three games to one lead, despite the 'Pitcher of the Year', Jocko Flynn, getting cuffed around early. Rasty Wright made history with six ribbies in game four, including a pinch-hit, base loaded triple, and every game seemed to bring a new hero, even as another fell. Such was the case in game one when the `hants second leading hitter, Harry Moore, went down with a hammy injury, but was ably replaced by local hero, Dick Higham, who swatted the sphere at a .333 pace, knocking in five team-mates in the process.
But the Crusaders were not without heroes of their own, as the peerless shortstop and Series MVP Jack Glasscock lead the way back to the winners circle. The Gotham base ball club won a dramatic game five, coming from 3 runs down in the bottom of the ninth to win the game on a pinch hit by Frank Olin, sending the series back to Ansonia. Here is where the irony sets in. Jocko Flynn, having regained his POY form, was shutting the Crew down down when the afore-mentioned Mr. Olin, who had not homered all year, connected with fastball from the man who went 307 innings, plus the WS `till this point, without giving up a 4-bagger. The ball went deep into left center, looking like the third out of the inning as Rasty Wright went back,... and back,... and back, until he could only watch as the ball sailed into the twilight, tying the game and all but winning the series for the Crusaders of Gotham City - The First World Champs of the Union League.
