Nobody in the band wants to write a bio but here are some excerpts from Gene's diary- May 1998. May 5, 1998 Today I quit my job at Arby's. As I was taking out the trash I just kept right on going, past the dumpster and out onto the highway. A kindly, somewhat older pervert gave me a ride to my halfway house. I wish I could have been there to see the look on Nigel's face! May 11, 1998 I have just spent my last twelve dollars on a loaf of bread, some bologna, cigarettes and a twelve pack of Old Milwaukee. Today is the 27th anniversary of my birth. Happy Birthday to me!!! May 13, 1998 Found a tape of my old songs yesterday. I got drunk and burned the tape but the fire got out of hand. The halfway house closed due to extensive fire and water damage. Hiding out at Kevin's house. I wish I didn't burn that tape. May 15, 1998 Good news! I found almost ten dollars in change under the cushions of Kevin's couch. Bought a pound of hamburger, some hamburger helper and a twelve pack. May 16, 1998 Kevin and I were snooping around the attic of his apartment building and found an old drum set. We both did drum solos until the cops came. They were nice but told us we had to cool it. May 17, 1998 Found an old Strat in someone's garbage. All it needed was some soldering and new strings. Jim has an extra amp so he brought it over and we all jammed out. Cops came. May 21, 1998 We've been jamming every day but no one can sing very well. Jim called his friend Greg who not only can sing but also owns a microphone. Cops came during our rendition of "I fought the Law". We all had a good laugh. Things are starting to click, thinking about maybe starting a band. May 24, 1998 Arby's called my probation officer today. They just realized I never came back from taking out the trash. They won't send my paycheck until I return my uniform but I don't have anything else to wear. And I can't buy any new clothes without my check. What a catch 22. May 27, 1998 Jim got us a show at "Phil's Coffee Barn". We're not sure if we should do it but we could use the twenty dollars. If we do play, I know we'll blow them away. We can already do about ten songs. May 31, 1998 We played the show but had to stop because we blew a fuse. Phil liked us but said we can never play there again unless we go acoustic. I know I've always been a dreamer but I think this is the start of something. I can feel it. I've scheduled band practice for Monday. I hope everyone shows up. |
