*I set out on a narrow way
Many years ago
Hopin I would find true love
Along the broken road
And I got lost a time or two
But my pride kept pushing through
I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you.
She adjusted her veil for about the thousandth time in the last five minutes.
She never thought she'd be so nervous.
She was born to be a bride, after all.
She looked over at Max. He looked regal in his tux. He smiled down at her. "Calm down."
Tess took his advice and breathed deeply. This was just a wedding. She could handle it. She'd been a bridesmaid in four other weddings. She could handle this.
She gazed up at Max. "Thank you."
He looked down at her quizzically. "For what?"
She blushed and smiled. "For giving me away."
"No problem, Tess. You were always there for me. I'm just honored that you asked me."
"And Liz wasn't the least little bit happy that you'd finally be giving me away? Getting rid of me?"
He shook his head at her. "Liz stopped worrying about that years ago. She was just happy she'd get to be a bridesmaid again."
Tess gazed out in front of her.
Isabel was already all the way up the aisle, and Maria was almost there. And Liz was just about to the point where Tess would start to walk.
She took a deep breath.
"Just Breathe." Max advised.
She didn't need a reminder to breathe when she saw her groom.
Tess met his eyes and kept her eyes on Kyle.
*But every long lost dream
Lead me to where you are
Others have broke my heart
They were just Northern stars
Pointed me on my way
Into your loving arms
This much I know is true
God blessed the broken road that lead me straight to you.*
"Who gives this woman to this man?" The minister asked. "Her family does." Max said, releasing her hand and slipping it into Kyle's waiting hand.
The minister went through a statement on the meaning of marriage…and commitment. Tess and Kyle didn't pay too much attention…they were too busy looking at each other.
"Does anyone object this woman being joined to this man? Speak now, or forever hold your peace."
At that exact moment, Michael let out a big burp, from his position with the rest of the groomsmen.
Max and Alex hit him simultaneously. Maria just glared at him, with a look that said "You're in for it, Spaceboy."
"Ummm…continue….and excuse me." Michael said, blushing.
The preacher nodded.
"Do you, Teresa Sheila Harding, take this man, Kyle James Valenti, as your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"
"I do." She said, squeezing his hand.
"Do you, Kyle James Valenti, take Teresa Sheila Harding as your lawfully wedded wife, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"
"I do." He said, his voice raw with emotion.
"At this time, Tess and Kyle have prepared a special message for each other."
Kyle went first. He nearly dropped the microphone a couple of times. But he regained his cool and spoke calmly, gazing at Tess with eyes full of emotion.
"Tess…You are more than I dreamed love could be. You are my soulmate, my best friend. I am so glad that you are going to make this journey in life with me. I know that I can weather any sea, or conquer any storm. I have you. Thank you. Thank you for every kiss, for every touch, for every tear. I love you."
Tess' eyes were watering. "Kyle…I love you more than I thought was humanly possible. You've taught me that we plan our own destiny, that we make our own paths…and that I can be loved. You loved me when I wouldn't let anyone love me. You saved me. And even though I should be scared, I can't be anything but happy. Because no matter what the future brings, I know that you will be there with me. And I love you. I need you."
"It is now time for the exchange of the rings."
"Repeat after me, Tess."
"With this ring, I thee wed."
"With this ring, I thee wed."
Kyle did the same, beaming with pride as he set the platinum ring on her finger.
"You may kiss the…"
She was already in his arms.
They both saw stars in that first kiss of married life.
After about five minutes, he released her.
"Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. And Mrs. Kyle Valenti."
A cheer rang out throughout the crowd.
You think about the years I spent
Just passing through
I'd like to the time I lost and
Give it back to you
You just smile and take my hand
You've been there, you understand
It's all part of a grander plan
That's all coming true.
