The Grassmarket is an area of Edinburgh behind the castle, an area a tourist may miss if they don't know about it. It is packed with pubs, restaurants and shops, worth a visit if you want to shop or have some refreshment, or both.

The area caters for all budgets, shops that sell the latest designer gear, shops that sell second hand clothes, fine restaurants, acceptable cafe's (And a few unacceptable), pubs that one shouldn't go in as they are too expensive, pubs that one shouldn't go in because they are......, well, you know why.

The Grassmarket has character and energy, it is where the locals go to socialise, to shop, to eat - it's a good recommendation if the locals use the area, you should visit and sample the atmosphere, you will not be disappointed.
