1. Starting point
Here it is: Kyle's bedroom. This is the computer I work on all the time. This is where I started out-- I wanted to get a picture of my car out the window, but there was no way to get a good picture of both the car and the room, so I had to settle.
2. On the corner
Given that it was pretty dark when I left Crawfordsville, it was very dark by the time I actually got to Bloomington. Space 101, where the show was, is located above this Blimpie. You can see light coming through the windows.
3. Looking downstairs
Space 101, being on the second floor of this building, requires one to climb a lot of stairs. This is a look down at the stairs without the flash on, so it looks much darker and scarier than it actually is.
4. Looking upstairs
This is more accurate-- this is what you see when you walk in the door for Space 101. The large wooden planks on the side there were part of the skating equipment-- Space 101 used to have a large half-pipe as well as rails for grinding. This was my first trip to the place since it was all removed, and it looks much different.
5. Dots
Here is a parking garage about a block away from where Space 101 is located. Too bad my flash wasn't powerful enough to show you what it actually looks like, but this odd picture looks vaguely Christmasy to me. I don't know. Must be the stop lights.
6. Straight up
If you walked into Space 101, stopped, and looked directly above you, this is what you would see.
7. Space 101: 1
Along one wall of Space 101 is a large series of mirrors. For this particular show, Stars of the Lid required a large screen to project filmstrip loops onto. You can see part of it in this picture, as well as a bit of the mirror. I'm not sure who that is poking about in the picture.
8. Nathan walks away
This is Nathan from Rivulets making sure everything is set. Next to the mirror you can see one of the projectors that the bands used for light during their sets.
9. Projectors
Here are the film projectors that Stars of the Lid used during their set.
10. Letterbox
Standing in the mirror there is Michael Anderson of Drekka. On the right is my friend David Bower, formerly of Mt. Gigantic. I hadn't seen him in quite some time, and was pleasantly surprised when he showed up. Before the show, I went with him and Riley to The Runcible Spoon where David whipped me up a delicious mocha. Also, he had a white headband on, but you can't really see it in any of the pictures. The shadowy figures in the back were the members of Stars of the Lid and Brian's insanely attractive girlfriend.
11. It happens to everyone, even celebrities
Another old friend who showed up was the lovely and talented Dorey Fox, who is also formerly of Mt. Gigantic. After the Drekka set, we stood out in the little hallway room and talked. She liked the camera (another Target Hallowe'en "gogocam"), and I took her picture very randomly. She took a picture of me right after this, but I think one or both of us forgot to wind it, so it didn't turn out. However, you can see more than enough of my mutant visage in this picture, for which I apologize. I look like the devil. Jessica Bailiff was sitting at the merchandise table across from where we were talking and somewhat sarcastically offered to take a picture of the two of us, which led me to believe that I was probably awkwardly hitting on Dorey without realizing it. I am a dork.
12. Rooftop Hijinks
I was never clear on exactly where this led, but at one point a bunch of guys got another ladder that led up to this one and went all the way up there. I guess it leads to the roof of the building, but again, I have no idea what they might have been doing up there unless it's a really bitchin' spot to smoke. Probably windy, though.
13. Amy, balloon
David brought balloons for me and Riley and a few other people, and we were playing with one of them. During the balloon melee, it started to attack this girl, who started playing with us. Her name is Amy. She probably hates you. She was totally hitting on David, but in that "I like you so I'm going to make fun of you" kind of way. She seemed nice enough, though.
14. Nathan
None of my pictures of Drekka turned out, but luckily I thought ahead enough to turn the flash on at least once while Nathan was doing his Rivulets set. His shirt says "COME BACK LISA."
15. Taunt
After a while, we quit playing with the damned balloon. It was like a little kid who wouldn't settle down, so we refused to play with it. Here it is taunting David, though. Little punk balloon. On the bottom right corner, you can see the shoe of Justin Vollmar, who is an incredibly talented songwriter and a very funny guy. He played Balloon with us, too, and enjoyed a few of the Lemonheads I took with me. Just typing the word "Lemonheads," by the way, makes my mouth water. Delicious Lemonheads.
16. Jessica Bailiff
For Jessica Bailiff's set, she played guitar and sang while Michael Anderson played guitar, melodica, and shortwave and Nathan played bass. Her set was fantastic-- I hope they record some stuff with this lineup, because they sounded amazing. I had never heard her work before, and I was extremely impressed. She has a beautiful voice and writes great songs.
17. Brian
Here is a kind of decent picture of Brian from Stars of the Lid, a few minutes before the show started. He's standing in front of his guitar and keyboard setup, and the large white sheet that was used as a projection screen. If I haven't mentioned this yet, their set was just short of a religious experience. I had never heard them before, and as soon as they started playing I felt tremendously guilty about this fact.
18. Back home, and how I remembered Amy's name
It's about 3:30 in the morning here, and I'm back in Crawfordsville after an uneventful drive back. I wanted to take some pictures in a 24-hour laundromat in Greencastle, but there were people there at 2:30 a.m. so I didn't bother. You can see "AMY" scrawled on my arm there, a little. This is my entertainment center. Hello Kitty is rocking out on it. There are various other little details in this picture that some of you might
recognize.
19. I have no idea
I honestly don't. I must have taken this picture on accident.
