The
Dark Side of the Craft is not something to be feared. It is not necessarily
evil. The cycles of darkness and light are crucial to most forms of life
on Earth. Further, they represent the cycles of life and death. Death is
a rejuvination, and a step that must take place in order for life to have
meaning. The Dark Side of the Craft is often termed "Chaos Magick" and
is primarily based in the translated texts of the supposed Necronomicon,
but also in Wiccan, Voodoo, and various other Pagan traditions.. It can
be used to harm or to heal, to save a life or take a life. It can be used
for good, or evil. However, those who use the Dark Side of the Craft purely
for evil, or "Black Magick" are not embraced by either mainstream Wiccans
or practitioners of Chaos Magick. Most
Witches/Wiccans know little of this side of the Craft. |

Al
Azif - The Necronomicon |
In
reading the books of the Necronomicon, it is necessary to understand that
it was written by a man with no experience in Witchcraft or other Celtic
philosophies, who was thrown into the world of the Old Ways. He describes
some of the wonders, both Earthly and Astral, as being terrifying in the
extreme. He also ascribes nefarious and deceitful motives to the Old Ones
which we do not accept as true.
Al
Azif was written in 730 A.D. by Abdul Alhazred at Damascus. |

Book of Rituals |
The
seven books listed here are known as 'Liber Logaeth', a small portion
of the 'true' Necronomicon which was translated into english by Dr. John
Dee. The content is similar to that of the fictional book (also called
'The Necronomicon') written by H.P. Lovecraft. Many believe that Lovecraft's
writings were inspired by the true Necronomicon, Al Azif.
Note:
This version of the Necronomicon is a fictional account written in modern
times. The actual Necronomicon is only a legend, with little-to-no evidence
in support of its existence. Some believe that the rituals and lore contained
in this version are still useful, even if they were intended to be mere
fiction. Chaos Magick and its uses are not dependant on the authenticity
of this book, however - but much of the ritual structure used in Chaos
Magick is based in a framework derrived from the fictional Necronomicon.

These characters
are implimented in the sacred writings of Chaos Magicians and in the talismanic
arts. There are twenty four letters. The hard "C" sound is replaced with
"K", and the soft "C" sound is replaced with "S". The "U" is absent, and
is an implied letter placed between sets of consonants. |

The
Sign of the Elders
The Sing of
the Elders is very similar to that of the pentacle. This is probably not
a coincidence, seeing as how the pentacle is symbolic of the protection
of the Quarter Guardians (also called "Old Ones" or "Elders") as well as
the God and Godess. |
