I
thought witches only existed in fairytales. Are you guys just pretending
or something? |
 |
Not
at all. People of the Craft have been around since before there was even
an english word for us. We've been around since long before there was even
an english language at all!
Witches
worship the God and the Goddess,
and our faith has been practiced for the past 30,000 years - since a time
when Neandertals and Mammoths still walked the Earth. Although our religion
has been mostly underground for the past 5,000 years or so (seeing as how
admitting our faith meant being burned at the stake and all), we have come
out of the (broom) closet and now, in the new millenium, enjoy all the
rights and priviledges of any other legally recognized religion. |
 |
What
about animal (or child) sacrifices, or Satanic rituals? Isn't your religion
immoral? |
 |
It
would be a very immoral religion if we practiced any of those things. But
we do not. You've been listening to far too many Christian Talk Shows.
Witches
believe in respect for nature; we cherish all animals, including humans.
We have the same respect for the Earth itself, which to us is nothing short
of a Goddess. In short, animal and human sacrifices are completely against
our moral code, and any Witch who would do such a thing does not deserve
to be called a Witch.
As
far as Satanic rituals are concerned; those are against our moral code
as well. The three-fold law states that whatever you do, comes back to
you 3 x 3 x 3. If you perform a spell to hurt someone, you will be hurt
far, far worse than any damage you could have done to them. Since Satanic
rituals are usually hurtful and selfish - we can not, as ethical people,
practice them. Besides, we don't even believe in Satan! |
 |
But
don't Witches worship Satan? |
 |
Nothing
could be further from the truth! We worship the Great Goddess, and her
Horned Consort, the Sun God. Yes, the Horned Sun God
does look a lot like the popular image of Satan; he has horns on his head,
and has goat-like legs complete with hooves. But try to find such a description
of Satan in the bible - you won't have any luck. The bible never describes
Satan as having hooves or horns; this image of the devil was concocted
by the church during the Burning Times in
an effort to connect the Old Ways (Witchcraft) with devil-worship. |
 |
I
thought only women could be Witches. Aren't males called 'Warlocks'? |
 |
Not
quite. The word 'Warlock' means 'Vow Breaker', and originally refered to
a Witch who betrayed his/her coven. In the ancient Celtic tongue, 'Witch'
(or wicche) meant female, where as 'Wicca' meant male. Today, however,
'Wiccan' and 'Witch' are completely interchangeable terms that can refer
to either male or female. |
