Mountaineering
- It's sad... Although I graduated from uni' in '99, I'm still a member of
Dundee University Rucksack
Club. Some of us just find it harder to let go than others.....
- If you're planning to go out in the hills, it'll be a good idea to check
out the weatherforecasts
first. This gives a good guide for mountaineering and other outdoor sports,
plus various webcams (including the Ben Nevis one!).
- If you enjoy climbing, but live in Scotland, the weather is rarely on your
side... So you'll have to make do with indoor climbing walls instead... At
the moment, the nearest decent indoor climbing centre to Dundee, is Alien
Rock in Edinburgh. But soon we'll have our own climbing centre here in
Dundee, too! Aaaah, breathe in that lovely chalk and sweat laden air.......
Dancing
- If you want to know what Ceroc
is all about, and where your nearest ceroc venue is, this is the site for
you! This link is for Ceroc Scotland, but contains links to the rest of the
country and abroad.
- Are you a "Sad Prowler" or a "Perfectionist"? You'll
have a giggle as you read (and recognize yourself or friends?) Rob's descriptions
of "Types
of Cerocers"! You can also find the top ten reasons for not dancing,
ceroc for newbies, how not to ceroc, plus more.
- If you do belong to the "perfectionist" category as mentioned
above (or perhaps you're a speed freak or a pro?), then Jiveaholics
Anonymous might be able to help.... ;-) This is where you can find even
more fun, sensuous, sexy, acrobatic, bizarre or plain mad moves to dazzle
and bewilder your poor unsuspecting partner with! If this site doesn't work
(which is often the case), go to the mirror site at http://www.jiveaholic.org.uk/
- Oh, in case you should find yourself in Norway, and wonder where you can
meet fellow dancers, here's the organization I used to be a teacher with.
It's called "Kom og Dans"
(Come and Dance), and they have venues all over Norway, as well as in Denmark
and Iceland. The main dances are swing and rock'n'roll, but they also do classes
in Norwegian Folk Dances, children's dance classes, salsa, tango etc. Regular
parties and "theme weekends" are held all year round, and are great
fun!! The only catch is that you need to speak Norwegian to understand anything
on this site.... Oooops!
- Fort the absolutely most gorgeous swing skirts, dresses and much more (also
lots of cool stuff for guys!), try this site! Unfortunately, like with all
the rest of the best swing clothes shops, this is based in USA..... Oh, and
be careful so you don't drool too much on your keyboard!Dancestore.com
And if anyone knows good places to get cool dancewear in Britain, pleasepleaseplease
let me know!
- Another good site to check out for you dance enthusiasts out there, is JazzJive.
In addition to selling Bleyer dance shoes (which according to a lot of swing
/ jive fanatics is THE dance shoe), it contains lots of facts about this dance
style, lists of classes, venues, teacher training etc.
Arty Stuff
- If you like pottery, then a visit to Potfest
is just the thing for you. This is an annual pottery market (there are two
venues: Perth and Penrith), where you can get anything from mugs to monsters,
from rustic stoneware to the finest porcelain.
- And for all the pottery links, information and artists that you've ever
wanted to find, both in the UK and abroad, this Hot
Links to Pottery and Ceramics page is just what you need...
