Benjamin Lummis is the New Zealand Idol, his debut single "They Can't Take That Away"
is available as of 11th May 2004, not even 24 hours after the finale of the NZ Idol show. Ben's debut album will be out in June. He was interviews on The Goodmorning Show this morning as said that the debut cd will have only one or 2 covers on it with the rest of
the songs having been submitted by various songwriters from around the world. A dead cert
for the album is a cover of "A Kiss From A Rose" that Ben performed so beautifully during
the NZ Idol competition. Congrats to Ben....onwards and upwards !
Its been mentioned that Ngahekenga O'Carroll (NZ Idol Top 24) will be releasing her
own album in the near future.
Shannon Noll (Australian Idol Runner-Up) has released a new single, "Drive" which was penned by Bryan Adams, with the B-side being a cover of the Jimmy Barnes classic "Working Class Man", which is one song that Shannon belted out really well during the Australian Idol competition.
Guy Sebastian (Australian Idol winner) and Kelly Clarkson (American Idol winner) are both working on follow-up albums. Guy was interviewed on the Holmes show last night, where he mentioned that he has written some material with Robin Thicke and Brian McKnight.
Eddie Gaiger (New Zealand Idol 6th place getter) has been given a trial on The Rock radio station in New Zealand. It will be interesting to see if he gets a permanent gig out of it...Lets hope this only inspires him to get an album of his own together.
Luke Whaanga (New Zealand Idol 4th place getter) is rumoured to be working on an album, we're not sure how true the rumour is but he is said to be working with his former Kapa Haka group on something.
Michael Murphy (New Zealand Idol Runner-Up) has been offered a recording contract as expected by many people. So I guess we will look forward to hearing an album from him in the future as well.
Another rumour is that Camillia Temple (New Zealand Idol 3rd place getter) is to release a cover of the Prince classic "Purple Rain", although this may have been a mistake as a cover of "Lady Marmalade" has already been released. No doubt we will be hearing more from her in the future as well.
Tamyra Gray (American Idol 1) has a cd out late May 2004 titled "The Dreamer".
Josh Gracin (American Idol 2) has a cd out mid June 2004 titled "Josh Gracin".
Benjamin Lummis (New Zealand Idol 1 Winner) has hit #1 on the New Zealand charts, with his single "They Can't Take That Away", which has sold in excess of 30,000 copies in just over a week, something unheard of in New Zealand for a single.
