Accomplishments: Owen Hart was one of the many talented wrestlers to come from the famous Hart Family. His father Stu was a very rugged individual and a tough man to be trained by. Owen was not only trained by his father, but he also started his career in his father's wrestling territory, Stampede Wrestling in Calgary. He won many titles and had many great feuds until he captured the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship from Hiroshi Hase in 1988. Owen went on to debut in the WWE as The Blue Blazer. He left the WWE to tour Mexico, Canada, Europe, and Japan. He lost the Blue Blaze mask in 1991. Owen Hart returned to the WWE to join brother-in-law and former member of the original Hart Foundation, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart. Later he formed another team with Koko B. Ware and was billed "The Rocket". One of the greatest feuds Owen took part in, was with his older brother, Bret. Owen and Bret opened up WrestleMania X with a great match. Some fans believe it's one of the best. The Owen Hart v.s. Bret Hart feud ended in a classic steel cage match at the 1994 Summerslam. Owen later went on to win the 1994 King of the Ring and became known as "The King of Harts". He then aligned himself with Jim Cornette and Yokozuna. They went on to capture the WWF Tag Team Championship. In 1996 Owen won a Slammy Award, and started calling himself "Slammy Award Winning". Owen then aligned himself with manager, Clarence Mason, and started teaming with another brother-in-law, The British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith. They went on to win the WWF Tag Team Titles on many different occasions. Owen also went on to face the British Bulldog in the finals of a tournament to crown the first ever WWF European Champion. Smith won the match. Owen came back, and challenged the Bulldog for the title on an episode of Raw. Bret Hart stepped in and talked the men down, and a new Hart Foundation was formed. Owen went on to win the Intercontinental Championship. He lost the title later to "Stonecold" Steve Austin, who was injured during the match after a tombstone piledriver. The vacated Intercontinental Title would again be won by Owen Hart. Owen almost quit the WWE after the infamous "screw job" at the Survivor Series, but stayed and won the European title. He then joined the Nation of Domination. In 1998 he announced his "retirement". Owen then returned as the Blue Blaze. At the end of 1998 Hart formed a tag team with Jeff Jarrett. The night after the 1999 Royal Rumble Hart returned to a place he was very familiar, being a Tag Team Champion. After his stint with Jeff Jarrett, Owen again took on the Blue Blazer mask. In May of 1999 he was supposed to ascend from the ceiling of the Kemper Arena at the WWF pay per view Over the Edge. An accident occured with the harness system, and Owen Hart tragically fell to his death. He passed away doing what he loved. Owen was in his prime when he sadly passed away. There are rumors that Owen was going to go on to win the WWE World Title, but it never got to come to fruition. Owen will always be remember for his backstage pranks, and his fun personality. But, he will also be remembered for his incredible wrestling skill, and athleticism. Written by: Jeremy Ashman |
