TIPS
These are in no particular order of importance. If your not ThiefX and your reading these and have your own site or are thinking of starting one, please take these tips into consideration.
1) Always check and recheck your pages to make sure they show the way thier supposed to
2)If possible check your site in various browsers to see how well it shows so you can recomend which ones it works best with
3)If you have to leave a page unfinished, then its better not to link it till its finished, cause unfinished pages tend to scare visitors away
4)If you have a spell checker, USE IT!
5)Although you may enjoy useing slang and short words like g2g and w/ever, or any of those others one you like to use when chatting while fun has a tendency to scare visitors away too, in fact, most slang and funny writing tends to scare site visitors away
6)I repeat, continually check your html to make sure its showing up correctly
7)Check your links at least once a month, to see if any sites have moved or shut down, this is another thing that makes people not want to come back to your site
8)Have your site reviewed by a site reviewer, if you don't know what this is or where to find one, ASK.
9)I know my typeing here is probably full of spelling mistakes, but I do not have a spell checker (which I find odd)
10)Direct Linking is a major no no, this is also refered to as hotlinking, what this means is taking the url of someone else images or files and posting them on your site, when you direct link you slow down both your site and the site that the images are being hosted on, if you want to use the images someone else has on thier site and they give you permission to use them, you need to save them to your computer and then upload them to your own web space.
11)If you run your site on a free web account like geocities or tripod its ok to open more then one account if you run out of space, I recomend useing one geocities account and if you need more space look up as place called 250free.com, they have a pretty nice deal on free space(though I strongly recomend sticking with geocities for your main pages, or useing the geocities for the html fiels and the other for images, if nessisary it has the best ads to have to deal with out of all I've seen, though ad free sites are always better, geocities is still the least offensive).
