On
Feb. 28, 1844, Spanish-speaking Dominican revolutionaries added a
white cross to the simple blue-red flag of eastern Hispaniola, in
order to emphasize their Christian heritage. On November 6 of that
same year the new constitution established the flag, but with the
colors at the fly end reversed so that the blue and red would
alternate. |
