OUR VOICE AT THE BRINK OF THE NEW MILLENIUM

This piece synthesizes the various art forms of dance, voice, and visual art to make an artist’s book which contemplates the possibilities of the third millennium. This unique accordion-bound book gathers gesture lines inspired by dance choreography, marries them with text written in many languages by volunteers and a vocal improvisation, recorded onto compact disk by Barbara Valentino.

Our Voice a the Brink of the New Millennium, an art object and performance, collates different languages as phrases which refer to dance, visual art and music under the umbrella of human experience. Man and the Millennium are captured in this piece.
An improvisational dance performance, which will complete the cycle of artistic improvisations, will be held in June, 2002 in Venice. Consult the Performance page for more information about the event.

WE-TWEAKED

This edition asks the viewer to look at her distorted image through reflective paper while watching the artist’s self-portrait get "tweaked" by various single Photoshop effects that are featured on each of 6 pages. Man created computers that now manipulate us in return. This is represented in the book by using the premier distortion program, Photoshop, and distorted photographic paper. The balance of power is beginning to change from us programming and controlling the computer, to the computer overpowering us with its extraordinary "thinking" and distorting capabilities.

The book is sealed in a black envelope by a white adhesive strip with the book’s title.

PARLERA’

People’s words, dialogue and ideas, considered abstractly, have color and form. Dante’s portrait begins a 12 page series of 12 characters, who literally converse only in colors and shapes. They are a combination of famous and anonymous people, clipped and photocopied from Italian newspapers. The accordion-fold format allows them to "talk" in page spread intervals or as one continuous conversational scene.
