Festival:
Sunday, June 25, will be a great festival celebrating the 30th anniversary of Libarty State Park. The BTRA will be part of the enviro village headlining the day.
(www.jamfest.net, www.folsp.org).
If you can't make it on Sunday, try to visit the park. It is lovely and the setting is breath-taking the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline only an arm's-reach away.
River Cleanup:
Saturday July 15, the BTRA and others will be hosting a clean up of Brookside park and the River. The River Restoration gang from the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission will be in tow and provide the supplies such as gloves, bags, etc. Come along .. 11-2. Should be fun. If you have hip boots, bring them along. Nothing compares to a walk in the river.
Political Volcanoes:
Vincent Pirone was ousted from his position he has held for 30 years when the borough council, in a
4-3 vote, decided it would not renew Pirone's contract. No comments were
offered during the vote. Because Pirone's contract expires on July 12, the
mayor said he was concerned that there would not be enough time to name a
replacement. Councilwoman Pat Ritchings noted the July 10 meeting would be
when the council could appoint a replacement. Apparently the mayor will be
absent.
We hope you enjoy listening to the 7-minute defense Pirone launched in Superior Court responding to DeSimone's (successful) appeal of the Planning Board's denial of DeSimone's application. Given the amount of testimony presented during the 4-5-6 day? and long meetings, you can hear his talent for streamlining arguments to their essence (www.geocities.com/thirdriverbank/news1.html)
