Hi,
BTRA advocates met with NJDEP Commissioner Lisa Jackson to push for our concerns over the proposed developments aiming for the floodplain of the Third River.
Ms. Jackson made no promises, but she took adequate time to hear concerns and look at photos of eroding riverbanks and flooded homes and streets. Joining in the discussion were New Jersey Environmental heavies Bob Spiegel, Abbie Fair from ANJEC, and Matt Polsky from Passaic River Coalition. Greg Remaud of the NY/NJ Baykeepers and our Hydrology guru Joe Skupien were unable to attend, but sent their cosmic rays.
In the meantime, both Fefferman and DeSimone have applications for Stream Encroachment Permits in front of Land Use at the NJDEP. The DEP has to decide on Desimone's by mid March; Fefferman's decision deadline is about 90 days from now. Note: Fefferman's project has been whittled down to 104 units (only?).
Below is the address where you can send a letter to tell the NJDEP of your concerns about the proposed Fefferman development. We need to get the address where to send a Desimone letter. We also suggest you include in your letter a request that the FEMA floodmaps be redrawn before any decision on these projects is made.
Please send Fefferman letter to:
