God of the Bible is creator of the universe and wants to have a personal and loving relationship with us, His creation. Unfortunately, our imperfections keep us from knowing and experiencing God on a personal level. This imperfection is known as sin, a term meaning separation from God. As humans, we try to bridge this gap between God and us through our own devices such as knowledge, philosophy, good living, or religion. Unfortunately, this is not enough. In order to bridge that gap, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to earth. Jesus is the only provision for our sin - the only way we can know and experience God, His love for us, and His plans for our lives. Romans 5:8 tells us that "God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Christ then rose from the dead: "Christ died for our sins… He was buried… He was raised on the third day, according to the Scriptures… He appeared to Peter, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred…" (1 Corinthians 15:3-6). As mentioned above, Jesus is the only way to God. "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me'" (John 14:6). What does this mean? Christ paid the ultimate penalty for our sins - death: "The wages of sin is death" [spiritual separation from God] (Romans 6:23). He suffered the consequences of our imperfections so we don't have to. But it is not enough to simply know that - we must individually receive Jesus Christ into our hearts as Savior and Lord (what that means is whole-heartedly accept him as our Rescuer and Lord). Only when we receive Christ into our lives we can know and experience God's love and His plans for us. Ephesians 2:8,9 tells us that it is by faith that we receive Christ: "By grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works that no one should boast." We receive Christ into our lives through a personal invitation to Him. [Christ speaking] "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him" (Revelation 3:20). So receiving Christ means that we turn to God, away from "self," which is called repentance. We trust Christ to come into our lives to forgive our sins and make us into what He wants us to be like. An intellectual agreement of Christ being the Son of God and that He died on the cross for us is not enough. Emotional experiences do not count either. Christ is received by faith as an act of our will. Would you like to receive Christ into your life right now? Read this simple suggested prayer below. If it expresses the desires of your heart, pray it to God, either in your heart or out loud (prayer is talking with God). Don't worry about exact words. God is not so concerned with your words, but the attitude of your heart. Jesus will come into your life, as He promised, if this is the desire of your heart. Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am not perfect and I thank you for dying on the cross to pay for my sins. I am opening the door and inviting you into my life and receive you as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life with You. Take control of my life and make me into the person you want me to be. Thank you Lord, Jesus. Amen. Congratulations and welcome to family! "As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name" (John 1:12). Tell another Christian about your wonderful decision to let Christ into your life. Also please send me an email - I am happy and excited for you! Now that you have received Christ into your life, what does that mean? The Bible promises eternal life to all who receive Christ. "And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life" (1 John 5:11-13). Thank God often that Christ is in your life and that He will never leave you (Hebrews 13:5). We can know from His promise that Jesus came into our lives when we asked him into our lives. He will never deceive us. The moment you received Christ... * Christ came into your life (Revelation 3:20; Colossians
1:27). This text is adapted from "Have You Heard of the Four Spiritual Laws?" by Bill Bright. ©1965, 1994, Campus Crusade for Christ, Inc. |
