Authors notes: I started this story a few months ago, but when
I lost all of my story notes after starting the third part, I
couldn't remember what I wanted to do with it, and when I asked
my Jr5 pond for help, Camilla answered my hails! THANK YOU Cam, I
am forever in your dept! -Kathryn (aka, Aquiel)
Authors Note:When Aquiel asked for her help on her story, there
was no way I could refuse. My main problem is, I can never say no
to a challange... This was no exception.. And as I read the story
and loved it, I was more than happy to help! Just hope my writing
are as good....Cam
Disclaimer: Unfortunately for you and me, Star Trek Voyager
belongs to Paramount Pictures, but we're free to add our own
ideas, right?
Part Three
Kathryn could not believe what she had just heard. She pulled her arms free from his grasp, and backed away from him.
"Please, I know this must come as a shock to you, but if you'll only listen to what I have to say, I'm sure that you will realize that. . ."
"Forgive me Director, but I am in no mood to socialize. I want to know where my people are." she said.
"They are safe, I promise you. They have been taken to a holding area, where they will stay until they can be released back to your ship."
"What do you mean 'until they can be released'?" she asked.
"I only mean that I have no intentions of harming them; as I said before, I was only expecting you, but I am not a violent man. They will be released providing," he paused.
"Providing what?" she asked.
"Providing" he continued, "that you stay."
"Director, in case you misunderstood me the first time, I refuse to be held against my will. My ship is in orbit around your planet, and if we don't return by a specific time, I assure you there will be consequences." she replied.
"Kathryn please, there is no need to make threats, If you won't stay here voluntarily, then I will be forced to, shall we say, resort to extreme measures."
She starred directly into his eyes, trying to understand his actions. She didn't like what she saw. He reminded her of the type of person who always got what he wanted, and right now, he wanted her, and she didn't see any other alternative but to stay. She had to look out for the safety of the away team, and every extra minute that Voyager was in orbit, was that much more risk of being attacked by the aliens.
<"How do I know that you will let the away team return to Voyager?" she asked, stalling for time.
"You have my word, and my word is as good as any." he said assuringly.
"But I can't trust you. You led us here under false pretences, and now you have kidnapped three members of my crew, myself included." she said.
"Forgive me Captain, but you don't seem to have much of a
choice, so I suggest you do what is best, and stay here, with
me."
*************
Aboard Voyager, tension was arising. Tom Paris was tapping his fingers at the helm control, his concern clearly showing. And from time to time he looked up at the First Officer, as if waiting for a sign to get the ship down and get the away-team back.
Chakotay was pacing the floor on the bridge, a tight knot in his stomach. Something had to be wrong. The away-team hadn`t reported in for hours. She would have reported in if everything were as it should. Something was wrong.
Something HAD to be wrong.
Two forms materiliazed on the bridge. B`Elanna Torres and
Harry Kim . But not the Captain. The knot in his stomach
tightened.
*************
Janeway looked out the window at the city below her. It seemed peacefull. And from the brilliant green-blue sky, a sun shone down on them. Somewhere up there were Voyager. Her ship. And on it...Chakotay.
Lifting her eyes to the sky, she stared at it as if she could see him. Up there somewhere, worried about her. And how she longed to see his face, to feel his arms around her, his lips on hers, her body close to his... Never again.
"Oh Chakotay..." she sighed.
"You will forget him with time."
The voice made her turn hastly around, facing the Director. She didn`t reply to him, just stared.
"The away-team has been returned to their ship."
Unable to stop a sigh of relief, she turned away, looking up at the sky.
"I trust you find your quaters adequit?"
Once again she didn`t reply, only looking up at the sky.
"Take care of my crew, Chakotay" she thought, knowing he would. He would take them back to the Alpha Quadrant, get them home. But without her.
"You must let them go."
Filled with anger, she turned to face him, looking him straight in the eyes for the first time since he had entered.
"Why must I?? Why are you keeping me here, against my will??"
His gaze flickered, but he didn`t back away.
"I love you, Kathryn."
Throwing her hands in her air, she felt the hopelessness return. "But why? I don`t love you! I have a life.. My ship, my... Chakotay."
Moving a step closer, her voice firm, she tried to make him understand.
"I DON`T LOVE YOU!"
He only smiled. "In time, you will learn to."
Bowing, he left, and Janeway was left alone with her view of what she had lost.
*************
Looking at the viewsreen of the PADD again, Chakotay could feel his self-control beginning to slip. She was captured down there, somewhere. Kathryn. His Kathryn. He had to get her back. Without her, his life would loose its meaning. He had just made her see that they could have a relationship, that the crew didn`t mind. She had finally opened her heart to him. And now this. Cletching his fists, he tried to seem calm, at least on the surface. Inside, he was boiling.
"Commander..."
Even now, Tuvok`s voice was still calm, collected, reasonable.
Going back to the planet is most risky. If captured you may.."
"I know the risk, Tuvok!"
His voice fierce and angry, Chakotay took a deep breath, trying to calm himself.
"I have to go back. She`s down there somewhere, held against her will. I have to.. Don`t you understand? She`s the Captan. It`s my duty to look after her."
Tuvok raised an eyebrow, the question "Is that all she is?" hung heavily in the air. But no one asked.
"At least let us come with you..."
It was Kim. But Chakotay only shook his head.
"I cannot risk any of the crew. I must go alone. If I fail to contact you within a week, you are to set a course for the Alpha Quadrant. Tuvok, you have my orders."
"Yes, Commander."
One by one the command staff left, B`Elanna patting him on the shoulder as she passed, as if to say "you`ll find her."
Staring at the planet on the viewscreen as if he could see her down there, he reached out to touch it.
"I will find you and bring you back, Kathryn" he promised.
