An Angel's Touch

I must share this with you all, if I post nothing else... When I went to see Martina in July she sang Concrete Angel and I was touched. I cried right there in my front row seat and I know she saw me. Well, I came home from the Concert telling any and everyone what an AWESOME concert she gave. But most of all I sang her praises to my Sister-in-Law, who is NOT a Country fan at all. I know she would like Martina once she heard her because well...who wouldn't?? And I knew if she listened that she would like her, even if she was Country. So a week after the concert I sent her an email telling her to download 2 songs off of the Internet(I know I know! But I BUY her music so there! because I wanted her to hear them. The 2 song were Blessed and Concrete Angel. 2 days later she called me to say that she had had her 11 year old daughter, my niece download it for her and they listened to it together and loved it! Now I wasn't surprised but I was very pleased. Now the point of this story is that my Niece is in a Lyrical Dance class and she liked it so much she wanted to ask her teacher if she could listen to it too and maybe they could do a number to it. Well...I am pleased to say that the group will performing a Lyrical dance to Concrete Angel for their competions! The teacher LOVED the voice, the piano, the picture it puts in your mind... I am so proud to have turned new people on to Martina and I am glad that they (Unknowingly! will be helping to promote it as well. Cause you all know that any person who is not familiar with Country Music and/or Martina McBride, will be BLOWN AWAY by the song and Martina! I am so proud to have started this and to have been a part of this as well... Belikeher

I was at the Solano County Fair and heard Concrete Angel for the first time.  It hit me like a ton of bricks. When I lived in Las Vegas I had a care home for fetal alcoholic babies and abused kids.  I cared for them until courts decided cases. One little girl (2yr) named Christina, I had her for about 9 months during the trial for sexual abuse. The court could not prove it was her father and after many months they decided to give the child back to the parents.  The night before she was to be picked up from my home I wanted to run with her. My husband and I stayed up all night talking and we still did not feel this child would be safe. To make this as short as possible. Three months before Christinas 5th birthday she was killed by her father. I had to testify in court and see post mortum pictures of this beautiful little girl I loved.  She is my Concrete Angel.  PLEASE do not close the door, shut the blinds or ignor what you see. You might save another little Christina.  Martina I want to tell you thank you for such a beautiful song, I know you said it had special meaning for you too, but I will never forget this one for my Christina...Linda LindaE

I don't know if this news went nationwide or not but earlier this week in California we had two high school girls abducted and assaulted in the California high desert.  After being held for twelve hours they were rescued and returned to their families relatively unharmed.  The abductor was dispatched with old west justice by the Kern County Sheriff's Department, and rightfully so.  Anyway in an interview one of the girls said that one of the things that got her through the ordeal was singing a song to herself over and over.  The song?  Blessed of course.  I hope it helps her in the healing process as well.

Muscular Dystrophy has no cure.  I love the song "A Broken Wing".  I know that the song is about domestic violence.  Since I'm in a wheelchair and have gone to mainstream public schools in elementary; middle; and high, I've had a lot of people in my life who have told me that I will never make anything of myself.  I'm in a wheelchair, no one would ever want me.  That's where they're wrong:

And with a broken wing
She still sings (their words hurt, but I kept going)
She keeps an eye on the sky
With a broken wing
She carries her dreams
Man you ought to see her fly

Yes, you should!!!  This is what I've done with my life so far:
A couple of months ago, was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Society of the two year college. That is the International Honor Society!  Not only am I a member of PTK; the Dean's List; have 4.0 GPA; been asked to be a Guest Speaker; have access to scholarships, am a member the Criminal Justice Club; has received the Criminal Justice Leadership Award; am a member of the Spanish Club; a member of the CSF (Cancer Survivors & Friends)... If that weren't enough, I received a letter from the National Dean's List (the highest of the high, the best of the best) telling me that I have been nominated by my fellow members of the PTK for $1000.00 scholarship, my biography to be published in their book, maybe even some newspapers as well! I'm not finished! You may remember that I write poetry. One of my poems has been selected to be the Poem of the Year for 2002! I have received the Poets Medallion and the Shakespeare Award! Of course, the ceremony takes place in Orlando, + an additional $25.00 fee. I'm not going but it's nice to know that what I do is actually good enough. I never thought it was but it's true that you are your own worst enemy!!! Thank you, Martina, for giving me inspiration!!!
