While many of us are waiting for our Messiah to catch us up in the rapture to go home with Him, some are waiting for their messiah to be released from prison. Sources say Yahweh Ben Yahweh (born Hulon Mitchell Jr.) the leader of the group “Nation of Yahweh”, who was convicted on conspiracy charges in 1990, has a scheduled release of 2006 from the Lewisburg State Penitentiary in Pennsylvania. These charges included up to 14 murders, some of defiant members, some of white people (which were done in order to be members of a secret inner circle).

Mitchell, born on October 27, 1935 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma received a bachelor's degree from Philips University, and a master's in economics from Atlanta University.  He and a woman named Linda Gaines (aka Judith Israel) moved to Miami in 1979.  They began to establish a religious organization and called it "Black Hebrew Israelites", or "Yahweh’s".  Mitchell taught that God and Jesus were black, and that blacks were the true Jews.  He also taught that America is the land of oppression, from which blacks were to eventually be delivered, and enter the promised land of Israel.  The followers were to change their name and receive a new one, and they all ended with "Israel" (e.g. Dan Israel, Ahab Israel, Job Israel, etc.)

The membership for the Nation of Yahweh is probably between 5,000 and 10,000. Sources say however that the actual number is less than that and has been decreasing. At one time they had over 2,000 adherents in Miami alone. They have a website, a weekly television broadcast, and temples in over 22 cities in the United States. At my own church, this group was placing flyers and cards in our members’ cars during a Sunday morning service! 

They claim that Mitchell is the true son of God, of which the Jesus in the Bible is just a type or foreshadowing. So, the Jesus in the Bible was not the real messiah; Hulon Mitchell Jr. is. However, many African Americans are falling for this foolishness left and right.

Don’t be deceived. Jesus, the True Messiah, God’s True Son was taken into heaven on a cloud (Acts 1:9) and is at the right hand side of the Father, until He returns. “And he shall send Jesus Christ...Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things…” Acts 3:20
