Simple Machine Webquest: Levers

Technology Objectives

  • The student will retrieve information using the worldwide web. VA SOL C/T.GR8.4 and C/T.GR5.3 
  • The student will use search strategies to retrieve electronic information. VA SOL C/T.GR8.4  and C/T.GR5.3 

Science Objective

  • The student will construct and utilize each class of lever in order to execute a practical task more effeciently.  VA SOL SCI.4.2 and SCI.PHS.10 

Directions

1.   Go to the following page and watch the video on levers.  After you’re done, take the quiz and rate yourself.  Brainpop.com Lever Video

2.   Try the sample lever(s) provided by your teacher.  (If your teacher has not provided levers, go to step three).

3.      Click here.  Print out and complete the lever note-skeleton.

4.   (a) Click here.  After reading the directions, balance the lever using two different mass configurations.  (b) Now click here.  Again, after reading the directions, balance the lever using two different mass configurations.  Also, try to simulate each class of lever.

5.   At home, utilize at least one lever to make an everyday task easier.  It can be a task performed by you, a brother, sister, parent, or other family member.  On a blank piece of paper draw, label, and describe the lever in action.  Attach the paper to the lever note-skeleton completed in step 3.

6.  Return to the Simple Machine Webquest Main Page and complete Part II-B.
