What an incredible city. It's clean, inexpensive and very user friendly. We stayed at the Ibis City Centre which opened in January 2001. The rooms were very small compared to the Starlight Suites in Budapest but who spends a lot of time there anyway? We did run into a problem trying to get back to our room one night. It was around 1:00 am and we were hopelessly lost, so we hailed a cab. We told the driver to take us to the Ibis and she said ok and we agreed on the price. She started to drive and nothing looked familiar. After 5 minutes or so we began to be concerned. The driver was insisting that we were staying at anotherIbis way on the other side of town. We told her to stop and in my best Czech (limited to subway stops) tried to tell her we wanted Katarina Street. She was not deterred. Only after Ty went into the other Ibis and got the address of the Ibis City Centre (it was Katerinska Street) from the manager would she take us there. It was the longest $4.00 cab ride in history.

The Prague Astronomical Clock - a huge crowd gathers at the top of every hour to see the animation! Great fun! | The Church of St. Nicholas - a stunning example of the Czech Baroque period, completed in 1755. |
Prague consists of many different districts, each with its own distinct name and atmosphere. My favorite was Old Town Square (Staromestske namesti) which was the center of everything. If you went in any direction you ended up somewhere wonderful, The Charles Bridge, the Church of St. Nicholas, the Tyn Church, Prague Castle, Lesser Town, or Jewish Town. The subway was a block from the hotel and took you anywhere in a matter of minutes. The best stops were the Muzeum at the top of Wenceslas Square (Vaclaveski namesti), Mustek at the entrance to Old Town, and Staromestska, close to the entrances to the Charles Bridge (Karluv most) and Jewish Town.
