RESEARCH PAPER

Abstract

Catering to students by means such as matching teaching and learning styles is viewed by many educational institutes as a way to attract and retain students. Research on learning styles was reviewed to determine: if learning styles inventories, the instruments used to determine students' learning styles are reliable and valid; and if matching teaching and learning styles results in increased course satisfaction and improved academic performance. Research revealed that many of the instruments that exist to measure students' learning style are questionable reliability and validity and it is inconclusive whether matching teaching and learning styles results in increased student course satisfaction or improved student academic performance.
