Dome Design

Here is a method for building a dome shell out of square and nearly square panels (and a few triangles). The traditional geodesic dome uses all triangular shaped panels that waste a lot of material. This design uses half sheets of 8x4 plywood (or similar flat material) with very little waste. Intersections of panels may be lap jointed so that no framework is needed. This design results in a very strong, rigid, spherical shell of plywood. The method used to join the panels sheds water naturally and prevents leaks. The square panels make door and window installation much easier.
