Weight Pulling

Mal Club Fun Day

Mum and Dad took me to meet another breed the Malamutes!  They were kinda big and have heaps of fur to bury my little muzzle in to as you can see me doing with Crystal.  And boy are they a noisy lot – they got this howling thing downpat.  The Fun Day was where I was also first introduced to weight pulling as you can see below as well as scooter racing.  It was a real neat day and I hoped like mad to see them all again real soon.

After the Fun day my wish came true and mum and dad started taking me along to their monthly weightpull training eventually became competitions under novice rules.  I was so I was awarded a trophy for first equal in points with my friend Ashley (another Amstaff).  The Mal Club were very generous in their prizes and Xena and I often received the yummiest bags of dog food to take home.

Lure Coursing

Now this activity is nothing but fun, excitement and hype!!  I kind of feel sorry for mum who I drag onto the field  behind me as I eagerly make my way to the starting position.  I get pretty vocal waiting for my turn and seem to draw a lot of attention to myself but secretly that’s only coz I want people to watch me.  And get this … I was awarded a trophy for it in December 2001.  But my main goal is to gain my Field Champion Certificate – that I’m looking forward to.  And now that my daughter and son are doing it, it’s a real family day out!!

Backpacking

Once again I tried something a little different.  Mum and Dad won a doggy backpack in the Mal Club’s Fun Day raffle and so they thought they would try it out on me and took me and Xena on one of their 16km backpacking hikes.  It was pretty neat as we got to go to Red Beach, Bribie Island and trudge along the beach and back with our furry friends the Mal’s.  Apparently they have a Working Pack Dog title that can be gained by doing these 16km hikes on 4 occasions so I think Mum and Dad are looking into this for me.
