Education Methodology  

COURSES

All courses will commence in September and March every year. They are available as full time regular course, part time or weekend courses, according to students convenience and the choice.

Mode of Payment :-

Payment to Sikkim Manipal University shall be made by the students in the form of DD taken in favour of “ Sikkim Manipal University” DE, payable at Manipal /Udupi and endorse their name, application number and center code on the reverse of the DD. Students are advised to retain the counter foil and photocopy of the DD with them for their reference.

 Payment to Thoppil Educational Trust ( Regd.) shall be made by the students in the form of DD taken in favour of “ Thoppil Educational Trust ( Regd.)” payable at Thrissur from any bank. Students are advised to get receipt for the DD paid in favour of Thoppil Educational Trust ( Regd.), from University centre, Thoppil, Thrissur.

University will send the receipt for all the payments. Fees once paid cannot be refunded  either by Sikkim Manipal University  or Thoppil Educational Trust. 

Semester fees :-

Fees include examination fee, study material except for Govt. service tax.

Admission:-

Students are admitted according to the eligibility condition for various IT and Management courses.

The applicant has to submit the application along with relevant enclosures to the study centers within the due date. The centers will forward the same to the University and if the application is complete in all aspects and if the University is satisfied of the applicant’s eligibility and suitability of the admission into the respective programme, the students will be granted admission to the programme. No candidate is permitted to pursue more than one course at a time. The right to accept or reject any application is reserved with University discretion. All students who have enrolled in the programs of the University will be provided with the student programme guide in each semester.

Identity card will be provided by the university to the students, after their enrollment in the respective programs.

Examination and Examination center:-

Examinations are conducted directly by Sikkim Manipal University and it is not conducted at the University centre. University will hire a School or College for conducting exams within the city of Thrissur.

Award of Diploma , Degree, P.G.Diploma, and Master’s Certificates:-

All successful students will be awarded the respective Diploma, Bachelor, P.G.Diploma and Master’s degree certificates directly by the University.

University centre is an approved study centre and is run directly by Sikkim Manipal University distance education wing. University code No:- 2760, 59015

Examination results :-

Will be published through the website www.manipalu.com.com and marks cards will be sent to the respective study centers and students can collect it from the centre.

For Graduation course basic qualification is 10+2 or equivalent. For Post Graduate Diploma, Master’s Degree courses basic qualification is 3 years graduation or equivalent.

Lateral Entry qualification :-

Lateral entry means a candidate having basic qualification and previous qualification in relevant field is given an opportunity to enter to higher semester. However such students will be required to appear and qualify in the previous semesters / relevant papers.

Candidates can leave the course at any stage and will be getting the corresponding Diploma certificates subject to successful completion of relevant papers as indicated by the University.

Faculty:-

Faculty of the university centre consists of experienced professionals with excellent academic standards. Faculty constantly upgrade their knowledge and skills by attending seminars and short term courses. Students enhance their talent by working with the faculty and other experts in their concerned subjects. Guest lecturers are also important part of the faculty for a high quality up-to-date study programme.

Students Recreation activities:-

Extra curricular activity provides an opportunity to students to expand their intellectual and aesthetic horizons beyond the classroom. Annual cultural programmes will be conducted at our University centre auditorium, twice a year.

Industrial training :-

All fashion design students must get compulsory industrial training in various garment industries at Coimbatore, Thirupur, Bangalore and other places of interest in designing.

University centre encourage annual picnics and sight seeing trips.

Internal assessment

It is based on continuous daily evaluation performed at the local study centers and the highest mark of 2 internal assessment examinations, carries 30% weightage on the final year examination.

Service tax :-

It is applicable only to Thoppil Educational Trust ( Regd.) fees. 10 % of the total fees and 3% surcharge of that tax amount to be paid in addition to Thoppil Educational Trust  (Regd.) fees. This amount will be paid to tax office by us.

ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCE COURSES 

                   Education and health care are two fields that have seen tremendous  advancement in the recent past. The demand for professionally trained personnel are increasing in the field of Allied Health sciences, has attracted countries like USA to India, for getting qualified personnel. The distance education wing of SMU, in collaboration with Manipal Academy of higher education (Mahe University) and Manipal IT education will train personnel in specific areas in allied Health Science viz, Physiotherapy, Radiology & Imaging Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Dental Ceramic Technology & Dental Technician Technology. Also the courses like Dental Assistant, Patient Care Aid and Pharmacy Assistant will fulfill the growing demand for skilled personnel.

·        Certificate programs: Duration:  1 year (2 semester)

                 The requirements of ceramic prosthesis are continuously rising. Due to high demand of ceramic preparation in most of the Dental clinics, the demand for the ceramists also increases. Getting ceramic training from a reputed institute with clinical exposure is very important in the study of ceramic technology. There is a lack of professionally trained staff in this field and so great scope & demand for ceramist in India & abroad.

 ·        Diploma programs: Duration: 2 years (4 semester)

                The course is designed to train candidates for estimation of errors of refraction, production of prescribed glasses, promotion of awareness about care of the eyes and assisting eye specialists in Medical and surgical care of the eyes. They are also trained in conducting surveys and in identification of visual defects. There are about half a million blind people in our nation requiring the services of ophthalmic assistants and they can get job in clinics,hospitals and attached to optical shops.

All candidate must do Pre - Requisite subject along with first semester.  

IT  AND MANAGEMENT SCENARIO 

            In the history of civilization, no science has so comprehensively placed an impact on the course of human development as information technology (IT).Undoubtedly, IT has made greatest change in this century and promises to play this role even more dramatically in the coming decades. IT is changing every aspect of human life-communication, trade, manufacturing, services, culture, entertainment, education, research, national defense, global security. The vision of information technology will enable all around development and the IT revolution will bring prosperity  to our people. The IT goal is creation of wealth, employment, generation and IT lead economic growth.

            IT and management courses offers a fully accredited program leading to earn great opportunity in this field.            Civilization has advances as people discovered new ways of exploiting various physical resources such as materials, force and energy.  When the invention of computers allowed complex information processing, to be performed outside human brain. The history of computer technology has involved a sequence of change from one type of physical realization to another to meet the challenging requirements. Our well equipped computer laboratory and learning through VSAT technology, lecture hall, extensive library support and team of well qualified staff will help each student to build a  strong ground in computer and in software arena so as to enable them to be placed in esteem national and multinational organization.

Eligibility :    3 year graduation or equivalent.

Duration :       2 year (4 semesters)

Lateral entry  to 3^rd semester of MCA

a)     Successful completion of BScIT / BCA / BSc (Computer Science) / BE / BTech (Computer Science / Electronics & Communication) or equivalent.

b)     A 3 year graduation with PGDCA / PGDIT or equivalent from a recognized University / successful completion of A level course from DOECC after graduation. OR

c)      A 3 year graduation with 2 year diploma from CMC / ET&T / NIIT/APTECH/2 year advanced diploma in IT from center for Electronic Design & Technology of India (CEDIT).

2.      Master of Computer Application (MCA )

Eligibility:     3 years graduation or equivalent

Duration :       3 years ( 6 semesters)

Lateral entry: to 2^nd semester of MCA

a)     3 year graduation and six months computer course OR

b)     3 year Diploma from state board for technical education after 10+2 and at least two years experience in an IT related organization thereafter.

Lateral entry  to 3^rd semester of MCA

Lateral Entry to 2^nd semester of MScIT

a)     1 . Successful completion of Graduation  and six months computer course OR

b)     A 3 year Diploma form the State Board of Technical Education after 10 + 2 and at least 2 years experience in an IT related organization thereafter.

c)      Candidate who have completed DIT from MAHE of SMU need not appear for 1^st semester exam and can join the 2^nd semester.No need to pay lateral entry fee.

Like the organized sector of commerce and industry, the traditionally non-organized sectors like agriculture and handicrafts are realizing the necessity of professional management. This has opened up limitless opportunities in diverse spheres for students of commerce and allied subjects.

1.   Master of Business Administration (MBA)

 MBA become a degree for the talented and professional Indian students. FASHION DESIGN

Fashion is fast changing, not by the day, but by the hour. It is therefore important to stay step and style and understand the trends, hitting headlines across the world. Fashion is never ending, it started from the Egyptian era of white coloured bleached jute with falls to colored silk with loose fitting – STOLA, which were worn by ROMAN ladies in 1st century. In 19th century, due to the industrial-ization and invention of sewing machine, dresses were made cheaper for poor and rich. But by 20th century invention of rayon, nylon and polyester and Computer Aided Designs created lot of new style and cheap dresses for public.

The designers show their new designed garment collections only for marketing, and not selling. Doing this, the designers will increase their popularity as a designer and give boost to the brands.

Fashion designing is creating innovative and inspiring garments that enhance body personality and character of individuals and express identity of different generation.

Fashion design course will equip graduates with the skills in all facets of designing. Based on design principles of space, shape, form, colour, harmony, influence on colour, colour forecast, will illustrate for garment detailing and garment manufacturing .             TUKATECH is supplying CAD / CAM and equipments for apparel and textile industries. According to TUKATECH, every apparel manufacture must use the latest computer software for design and garment production in future.

Advanced CAD training includes training in pattern construction, grading and marker making. Use of CAD technology training helps the students to learn pattern digitizing with a digitizer board and how to plot with a plotter.

Eligibility :- Anyone with basic computer  knowledge, holding basic CAD programme certificate  and knowledge in fashion design can apply.
