Alcoholic Drinks
|
Ale: |
Gorean Ale is closer to a Honey Lager than to an ale or beer. It is deep gold in color, and brewed from the grains of Gor and hops imported from earth in the early years. It is traditionally served in tankards or horns. "Marauders of Gor" p. 82-83, 99, 191, and 194

Ka-la-na: |
a very potent dry red wine, made from the fruit of the Ka-la-na tree. Like the wines of earth the quality of ka-la-na varies from that of a common table wine to premium brands such as the very expensive 'Slave Gardens of Anesidemus' and 'Boleto's Nectar', a medium-grade wine. Ar is particularly noted for it's production of fine ka-la-na. Ka-la-na wine is reported to have an aphrodisiac effect on females, and is often regarded as a symbol of romantic love. This wine is most often served cool, but sometimes warmed, particularly in Treve. "Tarnsman of Gor" p. 26, 79, 96, 168
|
Kal-da or cal-da: |
A heated drink of cheap ka-la-na mulled with fruit slices and juices and spices. It appears much like the sangrķa of Earth, with pieces of the fruits and spices floating on top of the liquid. Though the particular spices and combination of fruits vary, most commonly topsit and larma with nutmeg and cinnamon are used. Kal-da is a Warrior's drink, not suited to the tongue of a Merchant or Scribe. Often kal-da is consumed by Warriors of Tharna when reminiscing about their victory over the silver-masked Mistresses, and should therefore always be served only in a silver goblet (to harken back to the melting of the masks into collars). "Outlaw of Gor" p. 76, 78, 80 and 226 |
Mead: |
the preferred beverage of the northland, made with fermented honey, water and spice, traditionally served in a large animal horn. "Marauders of Gor" p 78, 89 and 90
|
Mulled ka-la-na: |
Heated ka-la-na, with mulling spices. Usually garnished with a piece of ka-la-na fruit or tospit, served in a goblet. (this drink is not described in the books and may be an online invention, although Trevians prefer ka-la-na served warm "Captive of Gor" p. 331)
|
Paga: |
(abbreviation of Pagar-Sa-Tarna, literally 'pleasure of the life-daughter'): a grain based, distilled hard liquor akin to whiskey; sometimes served warm to very hot, this is the drink most often served in Taverns in a variety of vessels. In some very busy taverns, it is served from a large pitcher, high-handled so it may be dipped into a warming kettle. This means that several patron's drinks may be refilled from the pitcher, rather than each individually.
Paga is considered symbolic of physical love. It is a very strong alcoholic beverage, similar to Earth whiskey. A lumpy, rancid brew, it is light golden in colour, and most often drunk by Warriors. This drink should be served in a footed bowl, most often clay. "Raiders of Gor" p. 100, 102, 111 and 113
|
Palm Wine: |

|
Turian Wine: |
a thick syrupy wine so sweet and thick that is it said one can see a thumbprint on its surface. Northerners rarely like this drink. "Nomads of Gor" p. 84
|
White Wine: |
a wine light in color and taste, it is not described in detail just as white wine. "Fighting Slave of Gor" p. 275-276
|
Wine in General: |
There are many varieties of wine, both white and red. Consider the following quotes: "In a Gorean supper in a house of wealth, in the course of the supper, with varied courses, eight to ten wines might be served, each suitably and congruously matched with respect to texture and bouquet not only to one another but to the accompanying portions of food." (Fighting Slave of Gor, page 277) & "The first wine, a light white wine, was being deferentially served..." (Fighting Slave of Gor, page 276)

Non-Alcoholic Drinks |
Bazi tea: |
an herbal beverage served hot & heavily sugared; traditionally drunk 3 tiny cups at a time, in rapid succession. "Tribesmen of Gor" p. 38. In online Gor, there is a special ceremony that accompanies the serving of this drink.
|
Blackwine: |
This is the same as coffee on Earth, brought to Gor during the earliest voyages of acquisition. The Gorean bean is smaller, and grown on the slopes of Thentis. Blackwine may be served in a variety of ways, from the simple to the complicated.
In taverns, it is generally served in mugs, with the addition of bosk cream and/or sugar, as requested.
It may be delivered on a tray with a small bowl of bosk cream (most often powdered) and 2 small bowls of sugar, one of white sugar, and one of yellow sugar, though it may be prepared at the sideboard to the Master's desires.
In the desert, it is served in small cups, very hot, thick and sweet with sugar.
When requested, the term "second slave" indicates a preference to drink it without sugar or milk. The phrase originated from the ancient tradition of having the sugar and milk placed in the cup by one slave, after which the beverage was poured into the cup by a second slave. (Tribesman of Gor, pages 88-89)
|
Breeding wine: |
sometmes called second wine, a sweet beverage which counteracts the effects of slave wine, making a slave girl fertile. It is made from the extract of the teslik plant, sometimes mixed with cheap ka-la-na (so, yes, this can be an alcoholic drink, but sleen grouped this here). "Blood Brothers of Gor" p. 319 |
Chocolate: |
made from beans brought back on one of the early Voyages of Acquisition, this is the same as the chocolate of Earth. Chocolate is often served as a drink -- warmed and sugared in higher class establishments. " Kajira of Gor" p. 42 and 61
|
Larma Juice: |
Larma juice is one of many fruit juices available on Gor, stored in the cold room. Sometimes it may be purchased at roadside stands. Mercenaries of Gor, page 257
|
Liana Vine: |
a rainforest plant which can be used as a source of drinking water. "Explorers of Gor" p 310
|
Milk: |
various kinds: thick and sweet bosk milk; verr milk, much like Earth goat milk; or kaiila, which is reddish and salty. In some taverns, powdered milk is used in place of fresh milk. "Savages of Gor" p. 61
|
Sand Kailla Milk: |

|

Water: |
spring water from the mountains or from the liana vine or carpet plants from the rain forest area inland of Schendi.
