LOVE IN THE MORNING
by S. L. Snyder

Timeline: May 1873

On this cool May morning, Michaela and Sully lay in their bed, snuggled up, arms around each other. The sun was just rising. There was no sound from Katie's crib and the rest of the house was silent. Sully's eyes were open and he lay watching Michaela's face with obvious love. Slowly, Michaela's eyes opened. Seeing Sully looking at her, she smiled radiantly.

"Good morning, my love," said Sully.

"Good morning. How long have you been watching me?" she replied.

"Just a little while. Ya looked so peaceful and wonderful. I was tryin' to decide if I should wake you up with a kiss."

"Why didn't you?" she asked.

"Too busy watching ya breathe!" he said, "and enjoying the sight!"

"Hmmm...maybe I should go back to sleep so you can use that kiss."

"All right by me. As long as you're prepared for what may follow!" he exclaimed.

At that, Michaela quickly closed her eyes. Sully pulled her close and kissed her, tenderly at first and then with growing passion. Michaela tightened her arms around her husband and felt her passion growing. As their kiss ended, she said, "I love you so much, Sully! I can't ever get enough of you."

"That's the way I planned it from the first moment I saw ya! So prim and proper and so eastern! A diamond in the rough....or maybe that should be a diamond in the mud!"

She laughed. "No longer prim! No longer eastern, at least according to my family. They think I have lost my proper upbringing. But if I have, I wouldn't have it any other way. I can't imagine ever being so happy back in Boston. I was thinking about David the other day and realized that even when I thought he was the only one, there was never the passion I have for you. While I was glad to see he was alive, even when I thought myself torn between the two of you, down deep it was always you."

"I can understand that. While I can never deny my love for Abagail, it wasn't ever the same with her. Cloud Dancing said it was because you and I are soulmates. He said many men and women are with those they love, but not many find their soulmates. The Cheyenne say those who do are blessed by the spirits. So while Abagail had my heart, you are my heart."

Michael smiled and put her lips against Sully's ear. "I want you now," she whispered.

She drew her hands over his bare chest. She always liked the feeling of his chest and in times like these could never keep her hands and mouth off his nipples. She pushed herself away from him a little, moved her lips down to one nipple and caressed it with her tongue, while the other hand caressed his other nipple. She could feel the nipple harden the more she sucked. She was amazed that caressing him this way could bring out so much passion in her. She felt Sully's hand move down her body and start pulling her nightgown up. She let go of him and put her arms over her head to help him. Sully threw her nightgown to the floor and pulled Michaela close. His hands roamed up and down her body, seeking every hidden warmth. Her hands were trailing his back, making circles with her nails.

"I will never get over the feeling of your naked body next to mine," Sully said. "What a pleasure!"

He cupped one breast in his hand, caressing the nipple with his thumb. Michaela drew a deep breath as her nipple reacted to him. The exquisite fingers of desire were coursing through her. Sully knew he just had to take her other breast in his mouth, so he moved down her body to grasp it. As he suckel on her nipple, feeling it harden, he felt his manhood rising. Abagail had ever given him the kind of pleasure he got from Michaela. His other hand moved down her body and settled in the nest between her legs.

As Sully's hand was on the move, so was Michaela's. She found that warm pillar of flesh and caressed it. Sully groaned with pleasure as she moved her fingers over the tip and down the shaft. She felt it growing stronger and warmer and knew it was time.

"Now, Sully, now!"

Sully rolled Michaela onto her back from her side and slipped on top of her. Her legs opened and before he could reach down to guide himself into her, he felt her hand take him and guide him home. Slowly at first, and then with more urgency, he moved within her. Sully found her mouth with his and the kiss was hard. He flicked his tongue to meet hers. Michaela held onto his tongue with her lips, just as she had held on to his manhood. Her hands moved onto his rear and she pressed him closer so that no space was between their bodies. Michaela let his tongue go and ran her tongue over his face. The fires of pleasure shot through her body as he moved more rapidly. Then she felt that all consuming fire as her body was wracked with spasms of pleasure. At the moment of his release, Sully knew the heights of pleasure within the body of his beloved.

Slowly, the world came back into focus. Michaela kept her hands on his rear so that he would stay inside her for a little while. He moved off her a little to gaze into her eyes.

"Every time is better than the last, my love. I could never find a mistress as good as you!" Sully said.

"And you'd better not try!" Michaela threatened with a smile and love in her eyes. "I love having you stay inside of me afterwards."

They gazed at each other for awhile, no words were needed to communicate their love. She felt him soften and knew she could not keep him in much longer, so she moved her hands up his back to entangle them in his hair. Sully withdrew from her and rolled on his back, taking her with him to lie on his chest. Her hand was caressing his face and all of a sudden she giggled.

"What?" he asked.

"A thought just came to me about mother!.

"Lord help us! What is that thought?"

"I was remembering when she mentioned marriage to us. She said men used a woman's body and that it was our wifely duty and we must endure it in silence. She said that never must we allow our husband to see us without clothes because he would become an animal. She said that it was a necessity if we wanted children, although she never understood why God choose this way to have children. Father use to let me read books that mentioned love making and the books indicated it was a good thing. When I was young, it was so hard to reconcile the books with what Mother said. I feel sorry for her if she never felt the pleasure a man can give a woman."

"And the other way around. Your touch alone can give me intense pleasure. Sometimes, we'll be somewhere, I'll look at ya and the need for you is so great, for a moment I dislike anyone near us. I'll wish we were alone so I could grab ya and make love to ya. And wouldn't your mother be shocked to find out that now you're a lady who likes to make love in waterfalls!"

"Sully!"

He laughed, "Well, you do, don't ya?"

Michaela blushed and smiled, "Ummm...y-yes...but....." she buried her face in his chest and murmured "and not just waterfalls..."

Sully hugged her tight, "Yes, the cave was fun, too!"

"Oh Sully, you make me so happy!"

They lay there for a few minutes, wrapped up in their love, then they heard a small murmur as Katie was waking up. Sully got out of bed to go to the crib, while Michaela put her nightgown back on.

"Good morning my sweet girl," Sully said as he picked up Katie, who was clutching her stuffed rabbit. He kissed her on the cheek.

Katie giggled and said "Papa."

He carried her back to bed and to Michaela. The three of them snuggled down in the bed. Then Katie sat up between her ma and pa and started playing with her rabbit. Michaela and Sully smiled at each other with contentment.

A little while later Michaela got up, dressed and went downstairs to start breakfast. Sully pulled on his buckskins and shirt and dressed Katie. Then he heard a footstep and Brian came into the room.

"Mornin', pa. Mornin', Katie." Brian said.

"Mornin', son."

Katie smiled and held her rabbit out to her brother. When Brian took it, she giggled and reached her hands out for it, so Brian gave it back. Matthew came in to see what the laughter was about, so Katie just had to give her rabbit to Matthew too and then ask for it back. The boys laughed at her. They really adored their baby sister and she almost made up for Colleen's absence.

"Your ma's making breakfast, so while we wait, how "bout we move Katie's things into her room?" Sully asked Matthew.

"That's right," Matthew said. "Today's the day you and Dr. Mike decided Katie would move out of your room."

"Yah - sure hope it works out. If Katie starts to cry when we put her in her new room, I don't know how I'll be, let alone your ma!"

Matthew laughed, "I think it'll be harder on you two than Katie!"

Sully smiled and nodded. Brian took Katie downstairs while Sully and Matthew made the changes. Then they went down and joined the family for breakfast.

"Seems strange to know that Colleen's a married woman now," said Matthew. "I still think of her as my little sister. I mean, only a few days ago, she was still Colleen Cooper and now she's Colleen Cook. Wow!"

Sully glanced at Michaela and noticed she was teary eyed. "Michaela, are you all right?"

"Yes. Just thinking about my little girl off on her honeymoon. It just seems like yesterday she was telling me how she hated boys and would never get married."

Sully and the boys smiled at Michaela, since there wasn't much they could say to that.

Michaela smiled, "I want things to go well for her and Andrew. I will worry about them while they're gone. And Philadelphia is so far away!"

"Michaela, you'd worry about them if they were here! At least Colleen won't be alone in Philadelphia...that should make ya feel better. If not, we'll just have to keep your mind on other things," Sully said, with a smile in his voice.

Michaela looked up at him and saw the intensity in his blue eyes. She knew what he was thinking and she had to look away fast before she blushed in front of Brian and Matthew. She happened to glance at Matthew and knew from the look on his face that he caught Sully's meaning.

Brian piped up, "Yeh, ma, we can work in the garden!"

"That's right, Brian," Michaela replied, giving Sully a "so there" look.

Sully smiled. "Matthew, Brian, why don't ya take Katie out and let her play a little outside while ya hitch up the wagon. I'll help your ma clean up the table."

The boys nodded, put on Katie's coat and theirs and went outside.

As soon as the door closed, Michaela stood up, "Sully! Matthew knew what you meant!"

"So?"

"I don't know...I just....well..."

"Michaela, it's natural between husband and wife, and Matthew knows about men and women."

"I know....it's just, in Boston it's not talked about like this...not at the breakfast table at least."

"We ain't in Boston." Sully walked over and put his arms around Michaela. "Ya think Matthew don't know what goes on between us?"

"No, of course not. And I know I've got to learn that it's okay to talk about relations between married couples. But it's hard to overcome years of mother's words!"

"Well, you've overcome the things we do in private that your ma said wasn't right. After that, overcoming her words should be easier!"

"Oh, Sully - you always make such sense!"

He laughed and bent down to kiss her. He moved his hands down her back and pulled her tight to him. She knew if they had been alone, without the children just outside the door, their clothes would come off quickly. Sully moved his hand around and cupped her breast. Michaela felt the warning signs if her desire. It amazed her that just a few hours ago they made love and now she wanted him again!

Sully pulled back and moved his hand, "Maybe we should have the children go into town ahead of us. We could ride the horses in later." He looked at her with his wry smile, knowing what her answer would be.

"We can't, Sully. I need to get to the clinic! I have patients!"

"Yes, I know! But I want you to think, all day, about what's ya missing! Tonight, we'll begin again." He kissed her again, deeply and passionately, then he broke away, took his jacket and headed outside, "get your coat, Michaela and let's go to town."

As Sully closed the front door, Michaela watched and smiled. She knew the day would be long as she waited for the night and what would come!
