My Mead horn with brass top and real rabbit fur used for both blots and feasting! |
Asatru has no churches to go to,so how are the old gods worshipped?Usually out doors in some quiet wooded area away from others. An altar is made of stones and wood, and offerings are made to the gods of mead and food. Mead is fermented honey drank by Scandinavian peoples for thousands of years. It is drank out of a horn usually or a wooden bowl if a horn is not available. Beer or ale can be offered as well if mead is not. Mead can be obtained from most SCA events or any beekeepers usually make it or know of some one who does.Clothing worn at blots is usually the traditional tunic and pants that medieval vikings wore day to day but normal clothes can be worn. Unlike some Wiccan rites,Asatru is not done skyclad (nude). Most Celtic or Wiccan holidays are the same as Norse ones so using a Wiccan rite is ok but you call upon Odin or Thor or Freyr/Freya instead of the God and Goddess. |
A Thor's hammer I made for use in blots and rites. Very large and is placed over the altar to hallow it. |
