Mead;
Nectar of the
     Gods
Mead is a drink made by fermenting honey and water.
It can range in strength from mild to liquor strength.
Mead pre-dates beer and ale in many cultures and is
more time-consuming to make, which may account for
its decline in popular culture. The Norse used mead
for a much later time period than other peoples and
it was used in worship of the Norse gods by passing
a horn around for each member to drink from and by
pouring some upon the alter. Many people involved
in the SCA make or use mead.It is usually formally
drank from a cattle horn drinking container. If you are
interested in trying mead you can find sites online but
be wary, some sites offer honeyed wine as mead but
true mead is not wine.I have several links on this site
that you can use to find mead making supplies and
drinking horns.Books on mead are available either at
your library or at
www.llewellyn.com.
Drinking horns used for
mead come in many
shapes and sizes. You
can get really good ones
from
The Horn Shoppe
online.My mead horn was
purchased from them
