Odin, called "All Father" is chief of the northern gods.
He is the keeper of wisdom,a shaman and seeker who
hung himself from the great ash,Yggdrasil (Ig'-Drazil)
nine days and nights to peer into the underworld and
learn the secrets of magic. He gave up his eye to drink
from the well of Mimr to gain other worldly wisdom.
Odin itself means "frenzy or madness" and it was he
who presided over battle and claimed the bravest of
warriors for himself. He had among his host fallen
Kings and heros. The Valkyries were women warriors     who rode out to chose who was to be slain. It was not
a sad thing to be slain in battle for the Norse but a
great honor celebrated in poetry and feasting.
Odin's companions were wolves and ravens. He had
a great magic horse called Sliepnir with eight legs.
His great house in Asgard has over 600 rooms in it,
the largest being Valhalla, where fallen warriors sat at
banquet during the night then rode out to battle all
day,the slain being returned to life in the evening to
feast again.
Odin has a great seat there from which he can see
all the worlds and all that goes on in it,aided by two
large ravens named Thuginn and Muginn,(thought
and memory)(Thoo'-gen/Moo'-gen).
Some facts-Our day Wednesday comes from Woden's
