-A Blue Jay is a generaly easy boat to sail, but to sail it fast it takes a little effort. As you probably know while sailing upwind in a BJ, you should alway keep a slight winward heel with winward chine about 4 inches out of the water. -You should also know that in high wind or a good chop the crew and skipper should keep their weight together on the rail and go back and forth to plow the boats bow through and above the waves so you can maintain maximum speed. -When Going down wind you should keep the boat flat and pull the board up all the way, and you can sit also sit a little aft to get a slight plane on the boat. -In heavy air you shoulde rake the mast aft as far as posible to power down. -In heavy chop, also remember to pull the centerboard up about 1/3 up can decrease the heel rate and increse the manueverability of the boat. -While reaching you should always have the board a little less than 1/2 the way up to reduce drag. -When going upwind both sails should be all the way in. -While going downwind keep your main out as far as you can without back-winding the spinnaker. -Remember rduce rudder movement, roll tack, practice sailing without a rudder. -If your boat flips right it immediatly even though your race is as good as over. -THE MAIN THING IS PRACTICE AND EXPERIMENT ALOT AND HAVE FUN. |
