march highlights: montlake flyer, Ms. Emily visit, Marin mountains...

March 28. Back again.
Yes, its been WAY too long since my last update. Just been very busy and more recently got back from a business trip to San Francisco. You'll be happy to know that I did do some running while in the Bay area. The meeting I attended was hosted by Birkenstock at a place called the IONS Retreat Center, IONS stands for Institute for Noetic Sciences. Pretty cool. Runs consisted of foothills - large ones - in Marin county. Killer hills is a better word. I also - just today - made it back into the pool for a small workout to get back into it. Running and Riding tonight. Can't wait to get back on a horse.

March 14. Evening swim.
Got an evening swim in tonight before heading out with Emily to a Nordstrom gig. The swim actually went really well. The sprint section was 4 x 50 and my times were pretty acceptable seeing how its been a while since I swam regularly. Still haven't managed to get back into running. This REALLY needs to happen. I'm going to try and motivate myself over the weekend.

March 13. I'm back.
Sorry about that, I seemed to have taken a little vacation from updating my website. Truth is, I haven't been doing all that much. I was sick for a bit, then the pool was closed, we got a lot of snow that kept me from doing some things, etc. Basically...excuses, excuses. I did have a couple good practices along the way though. Shot a 175 on Saturday and did a good track workout in the afternoon with some respectable - but not amazing - times.

Got back in the saddle last night. Once again Merlin was my mount. I don't remember him being so sensitive but I had to work really hard tonight on really minor balance issues. You CANNOT give him any ankle on his side or he takes off. Also, can't be off a straight line or he starts swishing his tale and gives a little buck...all you have to do is straighten him out though to fix this on. He's going to make me a good jumper though. I was all alone in the lesson since Susan has switched to Thursdays so it was nice to get a lot of attention.

Finally got back in the pool today this morning too after its been closed for a while. Felt really good but then again I didn't do anything really challenging, just getting the feel for the water again after about a week out of the water.

Headed out with Ms. Emily again tonight. Whenever she's in town it means good food and lots of dessert. I figure its OK to splurge when its with another pentathlete :-)

March 5. Back in the saddle.
Finally made it back to the barn tonight for a riding lesson. Tonight I was on Merlin and we worked mailinly on getting a bend at the trot and canter and ketting my body back where it needs to be. It was a great refresher lesson. Back to jumping on Thursday.

March 4. A little more swim.
I timed my 150 today for the first time and came in at a 1:57. The following 50 was a :36 which would put me at a 2:33 for a 200 if I could have kept the pace consistent. This would be a might fine time for me. We'll see what happens on my next swim. I also added a ladder set which adds about 350yds to my workouts so that I'm almost up to 2000yds a practice.

March 1. Greenlake and morning missed swim.
I did a Greenlake run the other night and beat my old time by almost 50 seconds with a time of 21:07. Not bad. I should be back on track to doing the Wednesday night run at Greenlake from here on out. Its usually a track workout, but I like to do the actual lake now and then to see how I'm doing.

The pool was closed this morning so I missed my swim practice. Ah, what a shame. I will have to make it up this afternoon though.

Finally got a copy of the article that the Montlake Flyer did on me too..."Nine for a Neigbor".
