The sugar glider cage can put out an awful odor. It's not something you want to have in your living room! Newspaper can be laid on the cage bottom and easily changed to keep the environment clean. The newspaper can be changed daily. But the smell lingers. Keeping the cage fresh and clean is not enough. There's a few things you can do to help eliminate the smell.
Sprinkle kitty litter on top of the newspaper on the cage bottom.
We started out just using newspaper on the cage bottom, changed it daily. We had the typical sugar glider odor all the time. Then we tried the cedar chips and it helped a little bit. Then we added the kitty litter and that helped more. We invested in two ionizer air filters and placed them a few feet away from each side of the cage. The air quality was much improved. The addition of baking soda is what helped the most. We never have sugar glider odor now!
Sprinkle baking soda on top of the kitty litter on the cage bottom.
Sprinkle wood chips over the top of the kitty litter and baking soda.
Use an air ionizer or two near the cage.
