The Exorcist

USA 1973 Directed by William Friedkin.

Starring: Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow, Linda Blair.

"The Exorcist" is one of the greatest horror movies which been made, maybe the greatest (check out "The Devilīs League"). It happened quite a lot mysterious incidents during production, and nine persons died in the course of the film. These in addition to that exorcism has happened in reality, makes "The Exorcist" to a very frightening experience for open minded people. I donīt belong to that category and donīt understand why people fainted away and puked at the theater during the premiere. Sure, for a film from 1973 are the special effects absolutely astounding, but the shock effects are relatively few.

Regan, the by the devil possessed girl is devilishly unpleasant to look at, but could have been much meaner. She almost seems helpless when sheīs lying tied up in the bed. There is however one scene that is extremely painful to watch. It is when Regan violently again and again stab a crucifix in her genitals. When the mother tries to stop her, put Regan her head between her legs so it turns red. All the time is she saying obscene things to the mother. It hurts to see that scene.

The fact that "The Exorcist" been so popular is due largely to that it successfully mix drama with horror. This is not an ordinary horror film. The first half-hour are very slow, and could been taken from an Ingmar Bergman film. Then life change dramaticly, and the suspense are rising gradually all the time. However funny it sounds is "The Exorcist" one of the most realistic horror movies which been made.
