The Serpent and the Rainbow

USA/ Haiti/ the Dominican Republic 1988 Directed by Wes Craven.

Starring: Bill Pullman, Cathy Tyson.

Wes Craven has made many movies of enormously varying quality, but "The Serpent and the Rainbow" is definitely belong to his better half. It shows with this film that he tried to reach a little wider public, just the right dose of drama and horror. The result was that itīs a bit forgotten today among the horrorfans, while the few girls who saw it thought it was good. Thatīs what can happen.

Dr Dennis Alan is set out for Haiti to discover a mysterious powder which get people to become zombies. He believes it may help sick patients. In Haiti is he meet Marielle who helps him find the zombiepowder. Theyīre soon discovers that the zombies actually are not dead. The powder only works for a while, but long enough for them to be buried alive. But everybody doesnīt like the snoopy doctor. When he gets the powder does the voodoo witchdoctor his life to hell.

This movie is built on a true story and should probably have little more attention than what it got. For in spite of the fact that the real horror atmosphere rarely appears, is it very well-made. I can also mention that Bill Pullman is good as Dr Dennis Alan.
