Background      Loi Krathong is an ancient tradition which, is dominant in Brahmin and Buddhist influenced countries. It is based on a number of beliefs, for instance ; paying homage to rivers and worshipping the Buddha's footprints on the Namtha Maha Nathi Riverside. The belief originated with the practice of decorating lanterns and lamps, and the floating of krathongs ( a banana leaf cup ) in canals and rivers. 

 
Activities     Floating of krathongs, cruising to admire krathongs, contests of krathong making, a Miss Krathong Noppamas contest, and various forms of entertainment.
