I was down to my last few days of hunting this huge wheat field where over 50 deer had been spotted feeding at the same time earlier in the season. I passed up a few bucks including this 8 pointer knowing a bigger buck was in the area. About an hour before dark I saw a group of deer enter the field about 400 yards to my right. Looking through my binoculars I saw it was the same 8 pointer I had passed up earlier and he had about 8 ladies with him.The group came to within 350 yards of my setup which was just inside the field edge in a small clump of bushes but wouldn't come any closer. The light began fading fast and I knew I had to do something. So my partner took out the horns and banged them together. As soon as the horns hit the buck looked up and came straight for us. At 180 yards he stopped and I took the shot. The buck ran about 30 yards before falling. | |||||||||||
