390th SMW/ 570 SMS troop from 1980 - 1984. DMCCC, Instructor, MCCC. Assigned to complexes 0-7, 0-5 ACP, and 0-6. Pulled at least a couple of Alerts at every 390th site. PTS certified. Pulled many "caretaker" Alerts during the deactivation from 82-84, but I always preferred pulling Alert at war-shot sites. Left the Air Force in 1988 for corporate life. Hello to all former Titan II warriors, where ever you are now!

I was a missile engine Tech in the 308th at Little Rock from 68 - 72. Man, we did have some fun. Some incredible stories and lots of long hours and hard work. PTS boys were absolutely crazy and someone should write a book about them. I went on to college and graduate school. I'm working as a lead programmer and loving it. I do wish everyone well

Arrived at DMAFB in 1982 as an E-6 freshly crosstrained from weapons technician to nuclear weapons technician and was supposed to become a RV Bay Chief in the 390th MMS. That's the guy who actually puts his hands on THE WEAPON. I was denied my PRP for stupid reasons and was transferred to the 355th EMS's Armament Systems Branch (Gun Shop). Was I disappointed?? No way baby. In fact in 1985, as an E-7, my gun shop was declared "Best In TAC, 1985" and the next year I made E-8, the first time eligible. Yep, I was pretty unreliable. I got my PRP back in 1988 for an assignment to Spain, returned to SAC on the B-1 at Dyess before the command stood down, and retired in 1996. Now none of that would have happened had I remained in SAC. I probably would have retired as an E-7 in 1990, because there were very few slots left in the Nuclear Weapons Field. BTW, never cared much for SAC; pretty snooty kind of Air Force. And yes, we had nucs in TAC, just not as big and a LOT easier to lo

Dear Friends, I don't know if Security Police are considered "Alumni", however, I spent several years of my life guarding Titan 2 sites at Little Rock(7/64-7/66) and Davis-Monthan(7/67-7/68)and another year, in the middle, at Tan Son Nhut(7/66-7/67). At Little Rock, there were two of us pulling the 24 hour shift. At times, it was a miserable,lonely, often thankless job. Freezing in the winter and sweltering in the summer. I have just found the Titan 2 sites today and I haven't had time to look at all the links closely, however, I do hope that the good men whowore out a lot of boot leather topside are remembered. My thanks to all the good people who have used their valuable time recording this part of United States Air Force history for the rest of us to enjoy. After 33 years, my memories had begun to fade, but you all are allowing me to see it clearly again. Thank you. John D. Cantrell

Served in the 551 SMS, Lincoln AFB, NE, 1962 - 1965. Transferred to McConnell in 1965. Worked in the Guidance Lab, 1965 - 1968, then moved to the Missile Procedures Trainer. Transferred to Malmstrom in 1970, then to 3901 SMES in 1975. Left SAC in 1978, when I transferred to The Tactical Air Warfare Center at Eglin AFB, FL. Retired in 1981 and have lived in Maryland since then.

I was stationed at McConnell AFB from 1966 to 1970. The 381 M.I.M.S was my home for all four years of my USAF service. I worked in the Propellant Transfer System. I still have a lot of good memories of those times. I visited the Titan II Museum near Green Valley AZ. with my son (he was 20 years old) it brought back memories and impressed him. I was a DMCCC and later MCCC with the 571st SMS (390 SMW) from 1965 - 70. Your Website is great. I just discovered the Guest book and spent a lot of time running through the memories. My Home Home site was 571-6, although I spent a lot of time at 1-7 (now the museum)and 1-5 as well. Went back to visit 1-7 20 years later (1991). Spooky how little things had changed. With all the emphasis on Butterlfly valves ( after my time) , I laugh / cringe to think how we all had to qualify on Wartime Launch Tech Data procedures that showed us how to shortcircuit every safeguard in the system ! Remember the instructions for MCCC's and Deputy's to fasten your seat belts at DEFCON 1 ? ( the BMAT and MFT would have to fall down during the War,a la star trek, I guess) And I was the oldest guy on my Crew at age 24..... How long ago. Titan II duty was definitely the high point of may AF Career. How many other Crew Commanders have secretly prayed "please Lord , don't let this thing blow up on my watc

I guess you'd say I'm one of the old Titian MMT's starting out at Lowery AFB on Titian I in 60 and going from their to Titian II at McConnell AFB and the 381st Strat. Missle Wing. My first job was filling in for Major Redd while he was at Vandenberg as the head of Site Maintenance Branch. Upon his return I was assigned to site 3-7 to see what was needed to restore that complex to an Alert Status after suffering a major fuel spill. This was accomplished thru the hard work and dedication of all of the mmaintenance prople stationed at McConnell. Would love to hear from any who remember me. I have already contacted a good friend who was my sidekick, Stanley Maty would love to hear from others

Thank you for keeping the proud heritage of Titan II alive. I recently went back to D-M after 20 years, visited site 1-7, and went by the buildings that I could still find on base (Wing building and Predeparture). I couldn't find MIMS - must have been torn down. If those walls could only talk. I even stayed in the same BOQ building where I lived for 2 years as a young single Lieutenant. It was quite a meaningful trip for me, and I have started to cruise all the Titan II web sites. The dedicated men and women who served to support the Titan II program can be proud that the United States prevailed in winning the Cold War. Their efforts in maintaining those 54 original missiles on constant alert from 1963 to 1987 resulted in a credible nuclear deterrant as this nation's largest nuclear weapon at the time. Thank God that we were never called upon to do our duty. I was on crew, arriving at D-M in 1976, and departing in 1981. I served as both a DMCCC and a MCCC on 570th line cre

I started up the place, helped any way. assigned to 570th crew 43 MFT in Jan 1963. no place to work. I even won a few turtle races. I was at 571-6 for my 1st assignment, went to 1-1 until leaving for LRAFB in '83. Anybody out there remember cruising Speedway in Tucson on our motorcycles? We want more pictures!!!

Guestbooks are great! Really enjoyed "reconnecting" with the best time I spent in USAF - SAC ICBM ops. Crew member at the 390th from 1979-1983, ops officer with the 67th SMS and later DOV chief with the 44th SMW during my follow-on assignment with the little missiles at Ellsworth... I had an advantage over most crew bears: Came to the business as a cross-trainee, so I knew what a great gig it was...

I was a part of the 533rd SMS at McConnell. I don't remeber the site # but I served under Pat Sullivan from 1974-1977. Wouldn't you know 3 1/2 years after I got out of the Air Force I joined the Navy I retired in Feb94. I know work for a government contractor here in Virginia. I found a photo of my crew in one of the Titan archives. If you go to this site (http://www.teleport.com/~boelling/titanE.html) I am the short guy in the front. It is great to relive some old memeories.

Great Web site. I was a guidance Tech in the 309th MMS from 1962 until 1968. Worked in 571-7 {the Museum } before it ever became OR. Visited it in Spring of 1999 and met Ms. Roberts and Tom Garret. They run a tight ship and are doing great things to carry on the tradition as Sentries for all to remember. I would encourage all who were stationed at DM to join the 390th SMW Memorial Association. PLEASE all past Cold War Warriors support the Museum.

Best system, bar none. DMCCC/MCCC at LRAFB 1970-75; CCTS 1975-79--then I defected to Minuteman. However, I signed the paperwork to close the final Titan II PE (11213F?) when assigned to Air Staff (XOOTS) in 1986-89. Served with Dave Strohm, Bob Linhard, Joe Hartle, John Lewis, Billy Mathews, Russ Coulter, Billy Van Horn, Bob Clendenin, Rich Medress, Dave Shamberger, Tom Ross, Andy Grappe, Mike Chiabotti, Mark Briedenbach, Jim Harvey, Bill Batchelor, Arv Zenk, Tommy Lucas, Steve Thomae, and many other All Stars. Had the best time of my life in Titan.

I served as a Titan II PTS Team Chief at McConnell AFB, KS from 1978 to the 1986 deactivation and loved every minute of it. I then was transferred to Little Rock AFB, AR and helped finish the last deactivation there. I had a great team at McConnell and we did some outstanding work. I separated in 1989 after a short stint with Peacekeeper, which paled by comparison to the Titan II. I am thankful for my experience and the great people I had the priveledge to serve with over the years. I am a firm believer that my Titan II Air Force experience is what provided the platform for my success in the business world today.

I was a Missile Facilities Technician with the 390 Missile Maintenance Squadron, 390 SMW from Aug 74 to Sept 78. I then went to the 3901 Strategic Missile Evaluation Squadron, Vandenberg AFB, CA from Sept 78 to Sept 82. I returned to D-M AFB, the 390 MIMS and was assigned there until the end. Mike Posey

I've been checking out these TITAN II related sites for the last couple of days now. Have run across a few names from the past. Sure does bring back alot of memories. I was a Missile Facilities Technician with the 571 SMS at DM from Nov 1981 - Aug 1984 (deactivation). I spent my first nine months as a line crew member then was selected to be an MFT instructor at the wing. Worked my way up, as an A1C, to S-211 program crew. Had some of the best times pulling alerts out in the Arizona desert. Had the opportunity to alert at every site except 570-9 - it was deactivated before I got the chance. My home site (while on line crew) was 571-5 out in Madera canyon - best site in the wing! Then my instructor home site was 571-7 (the Museum). Had a few interesting experiences during alerts: a major diesel fuel leak (Oh! What fun that clean up was), a couple fires (BioPak 45 time), Oxidizer reagent leak (Sent my BMAT to the hospital), Fuel leak in the pump room, Complete FAC (nothing like reading by the emergency lights), all those chopper flights to and from the sites (never got sick once), Olympic plays (don't forget the Ordnance Circuit Test), a missile washdown in the middle of the night (took a 2-12 spike and set off the launch duct sprays - at least we got to do a missile verification), and don't forget all those TPSY-39 alarms.... During the closing months of the 390th I spent most of my time working on the 390th Commemorative yearbook - "Reset-Shutdown". I took alot of photos including the one on your home page. It was originaly intended only for the yearbook but the editor sent it in and it wound up on the front page of the Desert Airman. Still have the negative. Also, I have quite a few shots of almost every piece of equipment in and on the site. Have some before, during and after shots of the demolition of two sites - I think they were 570-3 and 570-9. Got to go - I'll be back.....

Always good to see anything about the Titan II. I was an MFT at McConnell AFB from 1971-75. I search the web for more missile info. Have toured (explored) several Atlas F sites in Tx and NM. Still have several items from my days on crew. Would like more info. on the Titan sites that were demolished. Has anyone tried to dig out any site in LR or McConell. Some have at DM and they are interesting. Good webpage.

PTS troop at Mcconnell from May 62 thru Dec. 66. Many fond memories. With my buddy Jim Marr, I was first in the silo to investigate the problem when the first major spill of oxidizer happened at site 3-7 during Nov.,64. While no one was seriously injured during that incident, several of our group was hospitalized due to exposure to n2o4 vapors. Great site, keep up the good work.

Another outstanding site !!! Many fond memories of Tucson and the 571st I was on crew R-162. I can remember that but not faces with names. Lot of familiar names in the book. We had some great times back then, turtle races with hard hats, go from level 8 to level 2 without using elevator or ladders, walking out in the silo by yourself... Now that was freaky. Visited 1-7 a few years back, yes it still has that Titan smell. Does anyone know who the youngest person to pull an alert was. I was only 18.5 years old when I did it. Finally pulled myself together and cut my hair and retired from the military in Sep 99. Thanks Steve Kruezkamp where ever you are!! PEACE \Buzz
