Chairmans Welcome
Welcome
to the Neath Guardian Cricket League Web Site.
The League was formed in 1979 by seven South Wales Cricket Association Clubs in the Neath area. Its main objective was to foster the involvement of younger Club Cricketers in competitive mid week Cricket on good wickets.
I am pleased to say that over the years the objective has been achieved with great success. Every Club can boast of the many players that have started their careers playing in the mid week League who have subsequently developed into established Club, and even County Cricketers.
Since 1979 there have been many changes to the composition of the League as Clubs have joined, relinquished membership or rejoined, and membership has been extended beyond the immediate Neath area. The basic core membership has remained, however, and we now pride ourselves as one of the foremost mid week Cricket Leagues in the South Wales Area.
The League presently comprises 10 Clubs and there is a waiting list for membership.
In addition to the Thursday League Competition we have also run a very successful knockout Cup competition since 1984 and have an annual award for the most promising youngster.
Since its inception the League has been sponsored by the local Neath Guardian Newspaper who, through the involvement of a series of Editors, have been unwavering in their support. This sponsorship, together with all the other assets of the League, is used exclusively for the promotion of Local Cricket.
I am proud to have been associated with the League in one capacity or another since 1979. During this time many individuals, too numerous to mention here, have given their time and efforts to the League. The outcome has been a very successful development of mid week Club Cricket in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea area.
Long may it continue.
