General
points when traveling |
|
1. During air port activities keep
TC(travellers cheques) separate from passport and ticket. You don't need
TCs during airport proceedings. If you keep in hand during the process
there is a tendency to loose them since too much of things are in your
hand. |
|
2. Before you go to the air port make sure
|
2.1 you have passport, air ticket.
|
2.2 know the weight of your baggage.(or at
least make sure that its not exceeding weight limits). Keep local currency
in hand to pay for over weighted baggage. |
2.3 know what the air port tax is; so that you
can keep that amount in local currency. Some travel agencies prepay air
port tax for you. In that case make sure you have the receipt of a
payment. |
|
|
|
3. At a convenient point during the air port
proceedings you may find a wash room and get yourself comfortable. |
|
4. When you get onto the flight, after finding
the seat get yourself familiar with the environment. Anyway a crew member
will show you how to operate most of the things. Keep what you hand
carried inside top racks so that you are comfortable in the small space
allocated for you. Take time to read instruction sheets provided in front
of you. |
|
5. For your baggage make sure you paste
sticker(s) saying Permanent Address and Address Till <date> |
|
6. Try to learn more about the country you are
traveling. (eg. whether, civil life, cost of living, ...etc). Most of them
can be found from http://cnn.com/ . If it is
cold make sure you carry necessary warm cloths in your hand carriage.
(Don't put it in baggage). Don't expect to buy anything from as soon as
you land to a new country. (Of course you can by sacrifising a lot of
money). |
|
7. Keep some dry food (apples, biskettes,
chocolates..etc ) available from what you hand carry so that you can
survive 1-2days in extraordinary, unexpected situations. |
|
8. You are not allowed to keep knives, chillie
powder...etc in what you hand carry. Keep them in your baggage. |
|
9. According to my experience it is beneficial
for you to exchange TCs to local currency from a bank inside that country
than doing it from the airport. At air port those banks may charge more
(commission). |
|
10. If you are traveling all alone, keep some
useful reading material with you. Will become really useful if you are
on a transit. |
|
11. If you are traveling during night or early
morning it is worth to have a sleep other than having some liquor and
keeping awake. It depends on your next day's schedule. |
|
12. When traveling by taxi's ask someone (whom
you know) about the typical taxi charges. Negotiate charges before you
getting into the taxi. Otherwise taxi people often try to fool you. Make
sure you know the name of the destination written in local language
because most of the taxi drivers may not speak English well. |
|
13. Get yourself familiar with notes and coins
of the local currency. When you get change from local shops count the
change. They might try to fool you by giving wrong change. |
|
14. When you are wandering in a new country
make sure you don't loose your way. Keep some road signs. If you travel
night and if you keep shops as your road signs you will find it difficult
to find your way back if those shops are closed. |
|
15. Hand carry at least a suit. (to survive 2
days) |
|
16. Since you have to carry your passport
during your stay in a foreign country paste a sticker saying your current
address (till date). This is a precaution you should make in cases where
you lost your passport. |
|
17. Normally the
time mentioned in the ticket is the local time of that particular country |
