| Transit
information |
|
| If you traveling to the destination through another country it
is called transit and there are couple of changes you should bear in
mind |
|
| 1. When you go to the checkin counter to get
the boarding pass, you better mention that you want to
"interline" your baggage. The officer in charge might give you
second boarding pass to be used at intermediate air port. (this differs
from airline to airline). In some cases they only issue one boarding pass
and you have to collect the other from the intermediate airport |
|
| 2. Before entire journey plan your timing
exactly with each country's local time. This is very important if you plan
to do some shopping during the transit. If you stay more than 6-8hrs
normally customs officers(of some countries) allow you to go inside the
country for shopping. |
|
| 3. During the journey you better adjust your
watch to that country's local time; otherwise you may not feel how much
time left for your next flight. |
|
| 4. If you plan to go into the country to do
shopping you shouldn't go to transit section once you arrived to
intermediate airport. You should go as if it is your destination.
Then talk to officials there saying your "shopping story". Or
there should be a "Customer Service" counter for your
assistance. |
|
| 5. During your such shopping if you take more
than what is expected in the cabin, officials collect them and will put
them as baggage. So make sure you don't purchase any fargile item and pack
it without proper cusion material. |
|
| 6. After your transit when you are checking-in
for the 2nd flight make sure you remind the officer that you were on a
transit and you want to interline your baggage |
|
| 7. From the time mentioned in ticket you may
not be able to calculate the duration of transit directly. Normally ticket
depicts in terms of local time of that country. Unless you take time
difference into account and recalculate you won't know exact duration of
your transit. |
|
| 8. While obtaining the boarding pass from the
1st air port, at times they give you the boarding card for the 2nd
(3rd..etc) flight(s) as well. At times your next flights boarding card
will be issued by the particular air port. |
|
| 9.1 On some transits you may have to go to a
remote airport and/or terminal to catch the second flight. Specially this
may be the case when you are traveling from international air line to
domestic air line. Domestic airports/terminals and International
airports/terminals may be far from couple of kilometers. Try to find as
much as possible travel details from your travel agent. |
| 9.2 When travelling from A to B via Z(transit).
If B and Z are in same country then A-Z is international flight whereas
Z-B is domestic. Once you arrive Z, you may have to clear customs and
baggage to find next flight to B. Obviously baggage interline is not
possible in such circumstance. |
