taraxacum leontoden
taraxacum officinale
AKA
Priest's Crown
Swine's Snout
PARTS USED
leaves and
roots
PLANET: Jupiter
ASTROLOGICAL SIGN: Sagittarius
Religious
Invocatory: Hecate
LORE:
Although known throughout ancient times,
little magickal lore has survivied.
There appears to have been
some asociation with Hecate.
USE:
Modern use includes a custom which links
the dandelion to the air spirits, or sylphs.
It is thought that one might blow upon
the seeds and, as they drift into the wind,
they will carry your wishes to your lover.
Dandelion may be used to work
with elemental air.
It is the root of the common dandelion
which is able to descend deep
into the Underworld and defies death.
It would seem that the root might indeed
work magickally to invoke Hecate.
Root can be gathered fresh and sliced
into pieces no more than
a quarter of a inch thick.
Pierce each in the center with a thick
needle and string them upon a thick thread.
These can be dried to wear as ritual beads
when calling upon Hecate to give
this goddess her due.
