Danish Nats 2002 Vandel, Denmark
July 20th to 21st 2002
Last updated July 21st 2002
The NDRS organizers had tried something new this year, three races on the same week-end: Skellefteå in Sweden, Kalajoki in Finland and Vandel in Denmark.
This didn't seem to work very well for the Danes. The race in Kalajoki also counts in the Finnish Champinship, so all the Finnish drivers went there. And all the Swedes went to Skellefteå. This left only five participants in Denmark, Three Norwegians a Dane and a German.
Since this is the Dane's only race in the series they deserve their own weekend!
For a change, the weather was nice and we qualified 2nd on a 9.935 after the German driver.

But our opponent in the first round was Norwegian Richard Bugge Andersen. He was the most successful bracket racer in Norway for years before he moved up to Super Gas. He is a very good driver at the finish line.
We still have problems to get consistent 60' times, and this time we suddenly got a very good one, a 1.27. This resulted in a double break out, and we broke out more than Richard. Now Richard had a solo to the final, but was unlucky enough to break his gearbox.
On the other side of the ladder Spreckelsen had a solo, and Øyvind Marheim beat Denmark's only driver Lene Jensen on a 9,925 to a 9,907. That must have been a tight one at the finish line! Spreckelsen then beat Marheim in a double break-out and got a Bye-run in the final because Bugge Andersen was unable to repair his car.
