TIAINEN RACING

Thunder Valle(y) 2001
22nd-24th June
OUR FIRST WIN !

Last updated June 26th 2001

Our first win came Sunday June 24th 2001 in Valle.
But first we will go back to friday.
Since this race only was for Street Legal, Bracket and the Super Classes, the guys in JDRK decided to arrange two races the same weekend. A new and interesting approach.
Qualification for the first race started friday evening and continued saturday morning.
Henrik Serrano got his first No. 1 spot in qualifying with a 9.908 in his 68 Camaro and we were third with a 9.975, only three thousands behind Richard Bugge-Andersen.

Qualification SUPER GAS, Race 1

3 Morten Tiainen NO Pontiac Firebird 85 1,391 5,978 9,975 163,14 101,39
4 Bjørn Terje Nordin NO AMC Javelin 71 1,452 6,397 9,999 219,51 136,43
5 Roger Skansen NO Volvo 142 71 1,610 6,683 10,344 195,65 121,60

8 Peter Sukkestad NO Ford Mustang 79 1,400 6,162 9,893 210,12 130,59

We met Øyvind Marheim in the first round, and as usual he won, on a 10.020 against Morten's 9.998. So he beat us on the startingline with a 0.452 reaction against Morten's 0.480. A tight race!
Last qualifier Petter Sukkestad beat No. 1 qualifier Serrano. Petter ran only break-outs in the qualifications, but his closest was only 7 thousands too fast!
Nordin beat Skansen and Bugge-Andersen beat newcomer Birkenes (his first race in Super Gas).
In the semi-final, Sukkestad beat Nordin and was in the final from the last qualifying spot!
In the other semi-final Øyvind Marheim had stagingproblems in his AMX. As far as everyone could see he was correctly staged with both pre-stage and stage lamps lit. But as soon as the starter pressed the buttom he got a Redlight. The Timing team scratched their heads and checked the lights but found nothing wrong. But the officials called for a re-run. Again, the drivers staged, and again the same strange thing happened!
This time the judges declared that the timing-system was OK so Richard Bugge-Andersen was declared the winner.
