Sample Western Pleasure Reasons Good afternoon! My placing of today’s Arabian Western Pleasure class was 3-4-1-2. I easily placed 3 at the top of the class as 3 showed the best blend of manners, athletic proficiency, pleasurability, and way of going. 3 stayed on the rail in a more relaxed, workmanlike manner, was more responsive to the rider’s aids, and appeared to deliver the most pleasurable ride. 3 had a more correct headset, was freer at the walk, easier at the jog, and smoother at the lope. In addition, 3 was somewhat smoother and quicker in transitions, backed straighter, was more attentive to the rider, and appeared to enjoy the class. 3 was a more natural mover that had a longer, freer stride per size of horse. I concede that 4 went on a looser rein and kept his head steadier in upward transitions, but I fault 4 for exhibiting a rough, choppy jog, traveling with hocks out behind, and lacking the style of 3. Moving to my middle pair, 4 and 1, a fairly close pair, I placed 4 over 1 because 4 possessed a more ground covering, freer walk and jog, more balanced lope as well as a more collected hand gallop. I recognize that 1 was slightly more supple at the poll and possessed more style, yet I fault 1 for being short and choppy at the walk and jog, heavy in the front at the lope and strung out at the hand gallop. Finally, my bottom pair, 1 and 2, I readily placed 1 over 2 because 1 is more supple at the poll, straighter on the rail, exhibits a more relaxed lope, lower more correct head set, and quieter transitions. I grant 2 a longer more ground covering walk and jog, and a more stylish performer, but I criticize 2 for being tense throughout, high-headed at the lope and hand gallop, and swinging the rear quarters to the center when tracking right. Additionally, 2 stiffened on the left lead and backed too fast drifting right. For these reasons I placed this class of Arabian Western Pleasure 3-4-1-2. Thank you.
