After many years of complacency, Mother Nature, finally decided to  pay some attention to the South Texas Coast. She was kind enough to give us some much needed rain. But the delivery boy was named Hurricane Bret.
We watched anxiously as Bret grew from just a little bitty gust of wind to tropical storm to a hurricane. From a category 1 hurricane to a "cat" 3 hurricane. When Bret manifested himself as a "Cat" 3 Hurricane we all gave him our undivided attention. Wondering where he was going to wade ashore. Sunday morning I awoke and turned on the weather channel and discovered much to my dismay Bret was now a "Cat" 4 Hurricane. Nobody was in any doubt as to where Bret was going to spend the night. Kennedy County is in the lower portion of the Texas coast. It is not very populated except by cows and coyotes. But Kennedy County is only about 21 miles from our front door.  So we made the decision to head to more pleasant parts.
We loaded all 46 birds in to 11 cages. Then the 11 cages, Tequila, and 2 people were loaded in to our 1998 Ford Windstar GL mini-van. We then pointed the van toward Fort Worth, Texas, 413 miles and 8 hours away. Everyone made it there okay, that is everyone but the puppy. He was upset because he couldn't sit in a seat. He didn't have his seat, because we had removed the back seats so all the cages could fit. And he had to ride in the back with the birds at least most of the way.
Here are some pictures of our experience.

Poor Tequila, he still hasn't forgiven us, the puppy is still a bit out of sorts with our lack of respect for his space. Poor baby.
