What do we believe in?

We believe that sustainable development and preservation of the natural environment is the best way to secure and ensure a viable future for the people of the 'forgotten land'.

Forgotten by the rest of society and by the state, these 'invisible natives' receive very little or no outside help in order to make a living for themselves, resulting in high levels of poverty and malnutrition.

We believe that the Peruvian past offers great lesson about the way in which people can live in harmony with their environment. For the Incas and their ancestors, Pachamama, Mother Earth, was a sacred source of life and fertility.

In prehispanic times the people living on these lands knew something that we today have to relearn; that we depend for our survival on our natural surrounding, and that we need to live in balance with the resources that it gives.

Finally, we believe that, by helping the people of the Andes and Amazone, we rescue their rich biodiversity, and we rescue the rainforest which are the lungs of the Earth. Traditional knowledge can help us discover plants that contain a cure against modern diseases.

By helping the people of the Andes and the Amazone, we help ourselves!
It is important to teach the young people to value their natural environment. (Photo: Ralph Mens)
We believe that it is important to work with the 'children of the forgotten land' in our projects, to teach them to value their natural environment. To make them aware of the importance of their natural surrounding.

It is more effective to teach the children to value their natural surrounding and the environment when they are young, than to try and change an attitude in an adult person.
