This is a Chinese celebration when the baby is one (1)
month's old.
A thanksgiving of "Muah-Goik" ("Full Moon") dish will be given to
close relatives and friends to officially announce the birth of a new baby who is already
one month old.
"Nasi kunyit" - a traditional must
have dish for this "Full Moon" celebration for the Chinese. This brightly
decorated dish is given to friends and relatives to mark the 30th day of a
newly-born-child. Appropriately called "Muah-Goik" ("Full-Moon"), it
consists of "Nasi Kunyit" (yellow colored rice) with Curry Chicken (hot spiced
soup), 2 pair of different design "Ang Ku" (a type of Chinese Nyonya cake) and 2
Red-Colored-Hard-Boiled-Eggs. A different design embossed on top the 'Ang Ku' for a boy or
a girl. By looking at this, the recipient will know weather the baby is a boy or a girl.
See picture for a better description and view.
Both Sunny and Carolyn decided to
celebrate this "Full Moon" into two separate days because of a large numbers of
relatives and friends. Being modernize, we also gave cakes and fried chickens as well for
those we feel they preferred this than the old traditional "nasi kunyit".
November 21st 1997 (Friday) and 22nd (Saturday) was chosen. As early as 7:30 am the delivery of "nasi kunyit" and fried chickens arrived at our house. Tiffany was prepared to be taken to her grandparent in-law house after a morning bath. Dressing up Tiffany to look her best was a must for her mother. Since we lived with our parent we saved a trip to their house. Tiffany stayed at her grandparent in-law's house while both Sunny & Carolyn continued delivery of this "Full Moon" crusine to their close relatives and friends. From one house to another we traveled until finished our first day delivery and take Tiffany back home. Usually in return of appreciation the recipient will give a small token like "Ang Pow" (a red packet with cash inside) or a gift. It's a whole day delivery until about 7:00 p.m. What a day ! Feeling tired travelling and getting up and down.
The second day is the same except Tiffany stayed at home. The other half of "full moon" food is brought to our house for delivery to our other close relatives and friends. We also went to our working place to deliver to our working colleagues.
The final result ? Not bad...lah..... Tiffany gets all the head line publicity and also managed to received a lot of "Ang Pow"s and gifts.
