Born the second child of 12 to Emerald and Duncan Jade, he is the only child to have a normal name. Something for wish he has never been sure was a curse of a blessing. At age 9, he was hit with the responsibilities of a parent when his mother comitted suicide, a responsibility he shared with his older sister Saphire until she left when he was 17, leaving him to raise the remaining 7 siblings on his own.
When the final sibling left home, he stayed on and worked the farm until the spring ran out, then he boarded up the home and moved to the nearest town, a good 4 day trek on foot. He started working at whatever job he could, stoneworking, carpentry, farm hand, ranch work and light mechanic workings. It kept him fed with a roof over his head, but that was about it and he lived that way until he was around 100 years old, "blessed" with a gene that activated when he was around 45 to keep him that age till something other than nature took him.
After a short stint checking things at the farm house in the badlands, he treked several weeks to stay with Saphire and her family on their ranch. Which is now where he spends part of his time, the rest of the time he is bouncing back and forth from Amber to Earth realm. He dated Corwin's sister Deirdre for quite a while until she dumped him for a younger gentleman, he was heartbroke.
