![]() ![]() Now the two wily fire lizards were quite a pair. One, Corduel, the Star Reaches bred fire lizard, just recently flew his Sawne. Zallon on the other had, or in his case claw, hadn’t even taken an interest when Sawne took off; quite content to stay with his master as he walked about the ground of the Weyr. A’kito oddly didn’t seem to feel much of an effect from the fire lizards of his as they shot into the upper reaches of the bowl and soon far away.
“Alla, how many times have I told you not to do that?” Kali scolded her green. Alla chirped as Zallon carefully let go of the green only to land on A’kito’s shoulder again and examine the protective female from afar. Kali fixed her green with a “aren’t you ashamed” stare yet the green chirped once again proudly. Finally the green rider look at A’kito and her brow wrinkled before she seemed to stifle a smile under an apologetic look. “You’re, A’kito, aren’t you?” she asked, “Impressed from the same clutch as I did my Lilith?” “Yep,” he replied a bit surer than when he’d tried to talk to her last, “I thought you’d transferred to Dawn Sisters, Kali, are you here on a visit?” “No, not really,” the green rider replied, “I decided to transfer back, we had some wants that the Weyr couldn’t fulfill for us there at this time.” A’kito nodded, some how knowing not to ask into it any deeper considering they still only just knew each other from their Weyrling days. “How is Lilith, by the by?” A’kito asked carefully shifting so his weight fell on his longer, left, leg. Kali thought for a moment and sighed before pointing towards the rim of the bowl where most of the dragons were sunning themselves. “See for yourself; healthy as ever,” Kali replied proudly, Alla trilled in agreement. A’kito looked up to the fire heights and quickly found Lilith. The green was hard to miss as she was seemingly glowing, a circle of male dragons surrounding her form including A’kito’s own brown, Yuuth. “She’s practically glowing,” A’kito smiled then blinked as the other half of his brain caught up with the first, “She’s going to fly soon.” Kali seemed to grow a bit moody at A’kito’s observation. She looked up at the younger rider who was a bit over a head taller than her. “What do you care, you’re not going to send your Yuuth after her,” she snapped and seemed to suddenly realize what she’d done. Blushing she dashed off. A’kito was bewildered by her reaction.
Perhaps you should visit with Lilith’s rider for a while… she seems to need a bit more confidence than just what my sister gives her at times, Yuuth told his rider sensibly. Guess it couldn’t hurt to try, A’kito shrugged in reply. As he started to walk towards the caverns of the Weyr he looked up once again and saw the image battle still going. “Corduel, Sawne, go keep Yuuth company will you?” A’kito asked them sending them images of the large mahogany brown dragon the three flits chirped in reply and the brown rider quickly changed the Naronis bred fire lizard’s thoughts, “Zallon, come with me; I’ll need you incase Alla decides to perform a repeat on me.” The blue in question landed as Sawne took off and disappeared with her weyrmate to the large brown sunning, though no sun was showing now, on the fire heights. Zallon crooned at his master questionably. “That’s a very good question, my friend, where do we start looking for Kali?” A’kito whistled as he looked up at the sky. The clouds were starting to grow larger and darker now, causing A’kito’s long time fear to glance over his features and fizzle to the surface as a flash of lightning jumped about inside the cloud. Lilith says her rider is in the cellars helping them get ready for a feast set for tonight… you should go help too Thanks for the advice, Yuu. Now would you get down from there, that storm’s coming in very fast. The brown rose, his blue-green shaded eyes taking on yellow specks as he worried, only slightly, about the storm but more for his rider. Do you wish me to be with you? I know how you hate thunder so. Thank you, love, but I think I’ll be alright inside. A’kito replied waving his brown off towards their weyr on the second level off the ground. A’kito nodded, pushing the fear away from his mind and head for the lower caverns. If not for his shorter leg causing him to limp as he walked, A’kito would have looked like he was just having another walk around the Weyr. The thin flash of light behind him and the soft rumble which followed though caused the young man to loose his composure and jog the short distance in. A’kito still didn’t know why he was so nervous around thunderstorms, it wasn’t like he’d been struck by lightning or somebody he knew had; something about the sound just caused him to be very skittish. Within a few minutes A’kito was in the kitchens dodging those who were scurrying around to finish the feast with time to spare. The rider couldn’t help but chuckle as two weyrbrats streaked by, the Headwoman following them in their wake. “Bah!” the Headwoman growled her frustration but brightened at the sight of the brown rider, “A’kito, just the type of rider I was looking for, could you be so kind as to held out here, I only have so many drudges to do the work.” Without skipping a beat or waiting for an answer she continued on with assigning A’kito something to do, “Go down to the cellars and help bring up the wines and beers for tonight’s feast. Kali is down there, she knows what you’re to take up.” Before A’kito could reply Artaq Weyr’s Headwoman was off again after the weyrbrats and other helpers. You got lucky today, A’kito, Yuuth rumbled from their weyr. She assigned you right where you were headed for. The rumble of thunder in the distance seemed to agree with the brown. On A’kito’s shoulder, Zallon whistled as he shifted from claw to claw picking up on his master’s uneasiness at the thunder. Well might as well get over my fear and talk with Kali. If I don’t I’m going to look really goofy hiding in a corner while trying to talk to the woman. The little blue chirped in agreement. A’kito stopped for a moment at the top of the steps to the cellar, the soft light of a multitude of glows lit the way well. The thought of trying to warn Kali that he was coming down crossed his mind at that time. Maybe that would save Zallon from having to hold onto Alla. “Hello down there,” he called and chuckled at himself for sounding a bit corny, “Kali are you down there?” His reply was that of a green fire lizard heading straight for his face. Once again Zallon some how stopped Alla from performing her dirty deed. “Alla!” Kali’s voice was heard at the same moment as the flit’s appearance. The rushing of feet told A’kito approximately where the woman was. “Don’t worry, Kali,” he called as the form of the woman soon appeared. He took slow steps down the stairs, because of his right leg, to meet Kali half way, “Zallon got her before she caused any damage.” As if emphasizing the fact, Zallon cooed at the Alla as he took her over to her mistress. “Uh, thanks, Zallon,” Kali blushed as the blue settled on her shoulder with the green before flitting back over to his master’s shoulder, “Sorry about that again. I didn’t realize what she was doing until you called down here.” “Zallon was here, so it’s alright,” A’kito smiled rubbing his blue fire lizard’s head, “Anyway, the Headwoman sent me down to help you out with carrying things up for the feast.” Kali nodded and started to walk off into the depths of the cool cellars. For a moment A’kito didn’t know if she meant for him to follow her with that silent nod. The distant rumble of thunder though caused him to quickly pursue the slightly older woman. A’kito grinned sheepishly when he found Kali who seemed to mildly notice that he’d followed rather quickly moments after she started walking. “Well, these are the ones she told me to haul up,” Kali indicated, “I thought it was going to take me an hour or so but now that you’re here it should take less time.” A’kito nodded with a small smile and moved to take up the cask. Kali seemed nice enough… like how he knew her back in their weyrling days. It was as he was thinking this and starting to move the cask that all hell broke loose for a few moments. A flash of lightning and the roar of thunder just outside was the cause of the trouble. The moment the first rumbling, ear drum braking sound registered with A’kito the young 18 turn old went into a panic, as did Zallon. A’kito yelped as well as jumped to a place where his subconscious said it was safe… unfortunately Kali fell over because of the brown rider’s weight in her arms. It was then that Sawne and Corduel appeared fearful with their master’s feelings and wishing to comfort themselves as well as A’kito. The brown rider had hardly gotten his barrings when the sharp talons of Alla raked he’s left cheek. “Stop that!” A’kito shouted out just after Zallon once again captured the green, slightly angered by her attacking his master. On the other had Kali seemed perplexed as well as annoyed at what happened as was evident when she spoke. “What was that all about?” she half growled at A’kito. At the same time the young man was questioned by his brown. A’kito!?!? Are you all right? You’re not hurt are you? It was the thunder wasn’t it? Akito winced at the two questioners as he cradled his face. “Old habit,” A’kito winced not ready to tell Kali about his fear of thunder. “Old habit?” she asked as she stepped away uncertain of the brown rider now, “Jumping on women and trying to take advantage of them is an old habit of your’s!” A’kito looked genuinely startled but at the same time angered that the woman would think such a thing of him. “That’s not it at all, Kali!” He told her sternly, startling himself though he went on, “I don’t handle storms that well and that strike was practically outside the door!” Kali looked startled herself at the news of A’kito’s long time fear. Her eyes unfocused then narrowed. A’kito screwed his eyes shut thinking the woman still didn’t believe him and was going to slap him or worse. To his surprise, cloth was gently swept across his left cheek. A’kito, still not very sure what was happening, cautiously took a peek at the rider before him. Her eyes very determined looked to the side of his face as she murmured something to her green fire lizard. The flit looked hurt and the his from A’kito’s right shoulder reminded him that his other fire lizards were present as well. He turned to scold Sawne and hissed as the cloth entered one of the cuts. “Hold still, A’kito!” Kali hissed at the brown rider sternly. A’kito obeyed as he remembered what had happened. The green rider seemed to know about it too now, “I’m sorry Alla cut you, but if you don’t stay put I won’t be able to try and clean it.” A’kito nearly nodded, but thought better of it. Time seemed to pass slowly as the two stood in silence, one tending to the other’s injuries. Five minutes later the duo were once again starting to pick up the casks. “I’m really sorry about that one, Kali,” A’kito finally broke the silence as the headed for the stairs, “I’ve never done that before… then again a lightning strike’s never been that close before.” “I understand,” Kali replied, “I think. Just try to choose another thing to jump no next time.” “Do me one favor though, Kali,” A’kito replied wincing at her slight joke, “don’t tell anybody about my phobia, please?” Kali seemed to think for a time. A’kito grew nervous; he’d never be able to live it down if word got out about his fear of thunder. Finally the green rider nodded, “Don’t worry, A’kito, your secret’s safe with me… as long as you don’t jump me like that again.” A’kito chuckled believing now that they had a bit of a friendship going. I think she likes you. Yuuth seemed to grin at his rider. The laughter that flowed from Kali as the two rider shared in the chuckle cause A’kito to look at the green rider a bit more, perhaps it would be worth his wile to enter Yuuth in Lilith flight. It will be my rider. Don’t worry it will be. the brown stated.
